I have a XBox one X now that i use for 4k uhd bluray playback and it is absolutely horrible in the sound the drive is making when the disc is spinning.

I want to be certain that the UB820 is quiet.

Also how much better is the noise level on the UB9000 vs UB820 when a 4k disc is spinning during playback?

I hope someone can answer my questions.

Thanks alot in advance.
My 820 is pretty quiet, no complaints there.

Ok do you hear any noise at all from the disc spinning? How is the fan noise.

Have you listened to the player when it is out in the open with an open cabinet door?

Is the disc mechanism vibration and noise dampened?

Have you tested it with UHD 4K Bluray discs? They are the noisiest because they have to spin fast. I have also heard that the player can make noise due to layer changes on the disc.

I'm sitting slightly less than 3 meters away from it. My gear is in an open cabinet with no doors, so it's always "out in the open". Fan noise is real quiet, can only hear it if I put my head in front of the player (very low humming sound). I put in the Bad Boys II UHD and although I can hear it spinning from 3 meters away, it's not obtrusive or anything. I muted the sound coming from my AV receiver though, so obviously the spinning noise will be not be heard anymore when watching a movie with the volume up.

Just for fun I inserted the BB II disc into my X800 (which is stacked underneath the 820), and truth be told, it is less noisy. I can only hear it spinning if I put my head near the player. Also no fan noise at all.

Hope this helps.

I went from a One S to a 820. Concerning noise it was a massive difference in the quiet scenes obviously. How quiet? I sit about 18 feet from my TV/820, my 820 sits out in the open and has a stable dedicated platform. I cant hear anything other then initial boot spin.

Thanks i ordered the UB820 today and i am very relieved to hear your comments that it is a quiet player.

Hopefully other comments i have read about the player being noisy is wrong.

Has anyone done a comparison in noise levels between UB820 and UB9000?

I have a Samsung MU8000 and this being my first 3D disc player(820) would I be able to watch Transformers AoE ({3D Blu-ray} for the VAR)? Or would I need some further modification to do this?

Since the TV is not 3d capable I believe the disc will play as a black screen.

Excited to get my player. Ordered one for pick up on Thursday... got it for $375 + tax! Manager of the store told me that was his cost so he's not making any money off the sale, just ordered it for me lol

I currently have the 900, but will move that up to the bedroom with my Elite plasma, and use the DV player on the OLED in the living room.

Default Pcm audio issue.

Could someone test an audio issue for me?

Play a 20th century fox uhd title. Listen to the 20th century fox fanfare music that starts when the actual movie starts, not the one that plays when the disc first loads.

Try it in Bitstream and then lpcm and see if you hear a difference. Bitstream sounds normal. Pcm sounds odd. Like the surrounds are washy and out of timing sync with the fronts.

It's like there is some issue with the surround decoding. I've not had this issue with the oppo 103 203 or Panasonic ub900. Bitstream is causing occasional loud popping so I don't want to continue using it.

Forget the 9000, did you also get that 77" OLED recently? Sweet (though I would have went with the 77" A1 personally ).

Best Buy doesn't just reduce a product to at or below cost for the heck of it... not good business.

375 plus 12% is $420 Canadian. MSRP for the 820 is $500.
Panasonic has some serious hill to climb to be competitive. Methinks.
Good thing they have that Hollywood video processor.
