Keep in mind when I say this I have watched a wide variety of 1080p content on my 820 for almost 2 months ranging from big budget, to anime, to criterion and documentary and I would say from my old player (Xbox One S) the up scaling on the 820 is by far better. The 820 brings out IMO a lot more detail from picture than my previous player. Watching Dreams and or Ran by AK as an example or various anime, the colors appear so much more richer than what the One S was showing to me, which look flat in comparison. I do active comparisons on my setup as my 820 and One S are both connected. With the exact same equipment and cables. Last edited by King Crimson; 12-06-2018 at 02:56 PM. |

I didn’t read your mention about Haunted Mansion before but I do agree, the colours seems to pop up more on certain movies. The other movie which upconversion makes the colour noticeably pop up more is Terminal (2018). The only assumption I have is that the Panasonics also expand the colourspace of REC709 to DCI-P3.
As far as the 820 flexes a little bit? Yes. It does flexes a little bit depending where you hold it. After all, it is made of plastic with relatively heavy internals. |

Hi, I've read through about 80% of this thread. I've searched and I've read the manuals and I can't take any more in, but I still have a question i'm unable to find the answer to.
If I don't have a Dolby Vision display, assuming i'm not bothered about the extra outputs and build quality, is there any point right now in buying the DP-UB820 (Ł300) over the UB420 (Ł150)? I was kind of hoping I'd be able to use the UB820 to convert Dolby Vision source material (UHD disks and/or streaming) to other HDR formats or to SDR with enhanced tone mapping/optimisations in order to get a better quality picture on my displays. I'll be outputting to a BenQ TK800 projector and a lg oled eg960v. Loads of really useful info in here, particularly about using SDR2020 output and bypassing the (probably awful) tone mapping on the display! |

Thank you for also confirming that the player flexes under the touch -- if you listened to people in this thread, you'd think I took the player out of the box and threw it against the wall in order to make the disc tray open. ![]() |

Again, I can only surmise that the overly sharpened luma and chroma on the Panny's upscaling is what gives it so more 'pop'. |

Definitely the colour pop is not “overly exaggerated” but it’s noticeable.

When I read the metadata from a disc example M:I Fallout or virtually any Paramount. I'm receiving no values other than 0. But for say as example any Sony or Warner they're actual values in the metadata.

Warners, Universal and Sony typically do, while Lionsgate seemingly flip a coin. (Dear OPPO: I would actually pay cash money to have this information added to your players.) |

Yeah I'm watching the prices of all 3. Not really interested in any of them as far as content more so, solely for HDR10+ compatibility verification.

Interesting. However I set DV to off in the menu because I then can use the optimizer with HDR10(without the +). I find the picture is better that way. I expect this to be the same with HDR10+

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware that the 420 does tone mapping, however my question is whether there is any benefit to using the 820 with a display that doesn't support Dolby Vision?
