Yes these players for the USA marketplace are not widely sold due to Panasonic exodus from stores a few years back. Value Electronics is a good source if you can’t locate them locally. |

Panasonic UK are selling refurb 820's for £220 on ebay UK, that won't be of much use to most of you but I mention it because it's the right price for me to take a punt. I don't need it, but I wants to take a look anyway.

sorry Robert! I swear I was going to order this from you in the near future assuming that I couldn't physically pick it up anywhere but then Best Buy shocked me by getting a few in for some reason!

I've got a TV that can resolve 2000 nits worth of information along the correct PQ brightness curve before it runs out of puff and needs the contrast adjusting downwards to preserve >2000 nit information (which I have a separate mode for on HDR10, and Dolby Vision takes care of it on suitably enabled software). So I suspect that the Optimiser won't be of much use for me with the majority of discs out there, what with the increasing usage of DV and the relative lack of content that goes higher than 2000 nits, but I'll grab some mega-nit monsters like BvS and The Meg and compare the Optimiser to my own 3000/4000 nit mapping modes in terms of how much luminance is being preserved in each method. I'll also give it the once over regarding 480i playback, the chroma/luma sharpening etc.

All sounds very interesting and I believe you will enjoy the full color and peak luminance volume that can be preserved on UHD BDs, especially as you stated the high nit graded titles.
I must however admit I had a different interest in having you own a Panasonic UB820 and you nailed it at the end when you referenced the chroma/luma processing that I believe you will agree most professional and enthusiasts users agree is the best reproduction of FHD/SDR and UHD/HDR discs. I was especially interested in your take (after careful review) of Panasonic's"HCX" chroma processing. |

Thank you gkolb, we're taking reservations for the early February allocation of UB9000s. Less than 100 left as of today.
After mid Feb the allocations are monthly so once we sell out of the Feb. allotment it will be mid March for the next shipment. My purchases are committed until end of May, hope I forecasted (guessed on how many to buy) well. |
