What does adjustig Sharpness values do?
Is Mid to High Luminance the correct setting for my TV? or should it be super high?
thanks
Mid to High is correct. The sharpness on Edge Correction I set to 1. Give my UHDs a more Sony look to them.

Yes Edge correction should always be set to +1 just like the UB900 to remove the slight ringing.

Anyone?

I could with my nearly decade-old Toshiba Blu-ray player.

I don't know I have a hard time believing the 820 is better than the 9000 on picture.

Previously I owned an Oppo 203 but eBay served me well. I mostly use my player for HDMI movie playback, so I picked up a UB820.

With the Oppo I passed SDR BT.2020 and used one of the HDR presets on my Epson 6040UB projector. Not sure if I was ever satisfied with the results though. So now I have the UB820.

Correct me if I'm wrong for the only settings to change in the UB820:
- Set Color Mode to Ycbr 4:2:2
- Leave Deep Color Output to Auto (12bit Priority)
- Set HDR TV Type to Basic Luminance
I also have Resolution to Auto, 4k60p Off, 24p output Auto, DV Off, HDR10+ On

Question 1: Do I need to set HDR/Color Output to

SDR/BT.2020 (Auto)
Or
HDR/BT.2020 (Auto)

My projector seems to accept both, and I really don't think I see a difference. There's conflicting information on the pages (some prefer SRD, some HDR).

Question 2: Do I need to enable the HDR mode on my projector regardless of HDR/Color Output?

Question 3: Any other settings Epson owners recommend?

Thanks a lot!
Friendly bounce to see if anyone has any input. Thank you.

I'm not really that familiar with the Epson, but typically for projectors, the recommendation is to set the player to output SDR2020, and put the projector on a non auto, Gamma 2.4, BT.2020 setting, and then ensure that when you play the player is outputting SDR2020, not downconverting to BT709 - which is something it often does on my Sony due to handshaking.

A few pages back you said you will more than likely be stocking these at reasonable prices. Any news on that either?
Bump...others have wondered also.

I’m watching an HDR 4k Disc now with the same tv and just tried adjusting luminance in the HDR menu to see what you guys are talking about.

It said that that option is for sdr content only.

The mid to high is in the setup menu, not the playback menu. You'll find the sharpening controls under....sharpening.

I think I might be having the same issue? Display info doesn't actually states it's doing 709, but colors are all messed up and the picture looks dull and muted. This happens every once in a while. I then need to stop the movie, go back to the main screen of the player and start the disc over again.

Thanks...I had mine on super high luminance (1400 nits). After going back and forth I think I prefer super high coupled with what the HDR slider does.

The proper way to set it up is to adjust a player/TV combo for best image quality, not adjust it for the settings used on some other player/TV combo.

To make matters worse, his big gripe was with 4K non HDR image. Who the heck watches a 4K Blu-ray with HDR turned off?

The only thing dumber than that review is people that watch it and come away agreeing that they shouldn't consider the UB9000.

Lol, this is for fun only, this is not serious, this is not Vincent Theo talking here in that video.

I did not watch it, just briefly checked less than a minute; I did not feel harmed, I survived.

At best a player can provide 4k, then there is only some native 4k DI content, so all upscaling to 8k is performed by the state of the art TV at this point in time.

Is there something that 2.1 can do for 4K UHD players specifically that 2.0 can't? If the answer is no, then you don't need 2.1 in a 4K UHD player. Christ, even Dolby Vision works on the 300MHz (HDMI 1.4 bandwidth, albeit with HDCP 2.2) 'standard' HDMI sockets on my TV.
