I was wondering about that future compatibility but that would be a first off. Company like to sell the same movie/music several times. Take for instance ' Desperado' ' It was released on DVD afterwards as a superbit dvd and off course as Bluray. It does not really make sense.

Debating picking one of these up.

Curious about the upcoming UB450 though. Based on the look, and marketing point of "more affordable option" from CES, I'm wondering if it will be a step down from the 820?

While costs go down as manufacturing gets better etc, it definitely lacks the premium looks of the 820. I'm not seeing the same HDR Optimizer etc being touted on the Panny product/announcement page.

I guess I'm just looking for addition confirmation/"nudges" to just go for the 820, rather than waiting for the "cheaper" (though no idea how much so) model that might not be as great....

I can't find any indication that the upcoming UB450 includes the HDR optimiser feature. I just read the full specs and no mention. I would definitely get the UB 820 if true. HDR optimiser is a must have feature imo. There are no TVs or projectors on the market that do HDR tone mapping as well.

Would love to get the UB820 player region free for my UK blu rays like Arrow and Eureka Masters of Cinema. Not seeing much about that possibility though. Would anyone have any alternative recommendations?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

I currently have a 65 LG B6, so I don't have to worry about disabling a dynamic HDR option (unless it's just buried/label differently on the 6's vs the 8's, and I'm somehow unaware but...) and figured this might give me a slight boost to $K UHD AND standard blu upscaling PQ until I decide to upgrade to something newer.

Hmm...well that does give me pause then.

I do ALMOST all of my streaming through my LG itself (except Shudder, which I do through my Xbox One X)....so streaming/wifi capability has no real appeal for me...

well, I find streaming Netflix via my UB9000 looks noticeably better than my AppleTV 4K, so take it as you may. (I view them on my projection screen - see below for specs)

Good to know, though, with streaming I'm a bit less concerned vs disc performance. MOST of my streaming these days anyway are 70s/80s B horror movies, that 90% of the time are a pretty subpar transfer anyway.

I still prefer the LOOK of the 820 though. But, really depends on IF the 450 does indeed have the same optimizer, and what exactly that "more affordable" price will be...

I don't think we'll see the UB450 in the USA.

It would likely be the UB420, think it as a more lightweight version of the UB820 without Dolby Vision, only HDR10+. Yes it is physically smaller player. Probably would be hard to sell to save a few bucks in the USA marketplace.

Maybe Samsung could sell them.

Very good to know! I think I'll just go ahead on the 820 then.

Now I only wish it was deliverable to a US address from Amazon CA because of the price, but...oh well.

I’m willing to help but after shipping cost from me to the USA and PayPal fees, uou’ll spend the same amount of moolah in the end.

That's disappointing. I have a friend who's interested in the UB820 specs but isn't willing to shell out $500 because he's not quite a videophile. I suppose if Panasonic releases an updated UB820 later in the year I'll just buy that and sell him my 820 at a discount.

Surprisingly the UB820 is on sale for $450 for the next 10 days. Free double boxed shipping and one more benefit.

One more benefit?

And that is extra tempting. Now the only thing really holding me back is my job horribly botched all our W-2s this year. So while I SHOULD be getting a refund, for the time being until all of the corrected forms are in and reviewed properly, said refund is not only delayed, but I'm being told I OWE a decent chunk of money. Definitely has delayed some of the more "fun" plans I had.

I'd like to get an inexpensive Panasonic UHD BD player with HCX processing/HDR Optimizer but the cheap ones I've seen only has one HDMI output, I need two asmy Pioneer receiver can pass 4K but is not HDCP 2.2 enabled. Do any inexpensive with these features exist?

No tax is a benefit. Not sure if there's anything else. Thinking of ordering myself.
