How about $1,000? I see the UB9000 is 1K. What does that buy you? More attention? I would hope so.

Wow! Such hostility!

The UB9000 has an extremely good audio CD playback. Far better than the 820 and better than my 205 too. The transport is also extremely quiet. And yes, I double checked that it does use a completely different transport from the 820.

I'm a little torn between the UB820 and the Sony UBP-X700. As far as I can see, both have quite similar specs, both support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Does anyone know the difference? The UB820 is about 250% the price of the X700 here, so there should be some significant pros for the Panasonic, I assume? Thanks for replying!

Well, one outputs DV correctly and the other does not, for one.

The Panny has the HDR Optimizer which depending on your display may or may not show a benefit.

The Panny is more "rugged" in terms of construction which you definitely pay for.

Until and unless Panny figures out the DV issue I wouldn't buy one.

Also if I remember correctly the 820 price point isn't much off from Oppos 203.
Depends where you live, here in the Great White North the oppos were $750 cdn, and I got my 820 for $420 cdn.

Now for straight HDR-10 the panny's optimizer looks better which we already know. I am going to use my oppo for DV title's for now and my panny for HDR-10 movies.
Does anyone know if this problem will be solved in a next update?

The issue is that Panasonic doesn't think there is a problem.

I sure hope so too...but so short on disc formats and hires/hidef audio/video files playback.

And if Oppo can put attention to a $500-550 player why can't Panasonic.
Samsung with their last 4K BR player (9500 > $400)...missed the boat big time.

Sony X800? Best effort.

* If you have an Oppo player you know the score, and if you don't have one you miss it.
Or if you don't miss it it's because you aren't well aware of it.

You aren't kidding, you're serious; from the balanced XLR analog outs?

I have calibrated enough projectors and TVs that originally use Sony 800 and Sony 1000 to know that from my experience the HDR optimizer will help ANY display out there. Some a lot more than others.

I’m not kidding. Balanced output voltage is higher than unblanaces. Level match them, I prefer the sound of my 9000. I did a once over before I sould my 205 because I don’t want to regret it. I tested everything for my needs. Netflix quality, audio CD playback, upscaling, HDR to SDR, DV. The only ghaty applies to me that I miss is only the DV accuracy of the Oppo.

The region is very important; the world doesn't resolve around the USA.
In the Great White North the Oppo is the Polar Bear, king of the iceberg.
But it costs us...four times more than say a Sony X800 (vs the 203 / best price).
We pay for the best. And the 205? Nine times more than the X800. But it's worth it, big time.

Australia, Germany, Brazil, Italy, France, UK, Ireland, Finland, New Zealand, Japan, China, Russia, South Korea, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, etc.; each region have their own value on audio/video electronics. Still, the best is everywhere the same regardless of price...Oppo 205.

The 9000 needs to eat some more nuts ...

Methinks, IMHO, YMMV, all that jazz.

eBay have 15% off electronics code today so I can get an 820 for £245.
Currently have the Panny UB700 which has been great, but this optimiser on the 820, plus Dolby Vision is really calling me. OLED is an LG B7. Hmmm what to do!!!?!
I have wondered that myself. Having the Panny's HDR Optimizer on in combination with the LG C8's Dynamic Tone Mapping made the image brighter during the opening scene of The Avengers.

It's funny you said that John; I see a lot of repeatitiveness from a lot of people.
In your thread (Oppo 203) you are very quick to mention to someone when he's off topic.
But your rule apply only in your thread. Funny how some people are, isn't it.

I know, you're running a serious business of info, but others don't?

With me exactly the same. Vincent till now did not address this question. After some more testing I did stop the tonemapping of my C8 and just went on only using the HDR optimizer.
