What the heck did they do with the recent update? My display won't go into HDR mode now. Player says it outputs HDR but display only goes into SDR. How do I fix that?

Edit: Okay I managed to get HDR mode by turning deep color OFF and ON again. Will test some more to see if this issue comes back.
So far I noticed bitrate now seems to show correctly.

I don't know this stuff well; what is the difference between Maximum Light Level and Max Frame Average Light Level? My copy of Jumanji WTTJ says 2013 nit and 393 as average. It seems quite low even though the picture on this one is very bright. What am I missing?

Neither figure is low, is the answer. Hence why it's nice and bright to you.

I might be wrong, but I believe MLL is the peak brightness of an individual pixel, and MFALL is the peak average brightness of a whole frame.

1. HDR Optimizer doesn’t work on DV
2. You go to the settings menu, and therebis. A DV option and HDR10+ options there. Once they are turned on, the switching is automatic.

http://eng-ca.faq.panasonic.com/app/...factory-preset.

Factory reset help needed.

I have followed this procedure but I can’t ever find 08 FIN option.

I tried this on my 9000, 820 and even last year’s 900. I don’t see this option at all.

I did that several times on the UK 700 model. No problems.

Weird. Even on the brand new out of the box unit the process doesn’t give me 08 FIN option. It gave me 00 RET, 03, 05 (?), 11 and 13.

Literally just thos three buttons simultaneously until I see 00 RET and keep pressing right arrow until I see 08 FIN right? I didn’t skip anything?

This player keeps getting better and better.

Nice to see HDR10 metadata being displayed.

Hey all.

I've been into 4K for about 6 months now, having got my first 4K TV, an LG C8 OLED. My current 4K Blu-Ray player is a UBK90. Can you help me convince my wife why I would want to upgrade to the UB820? Am I really going to notice a difference going into a new price tier?

I've never in my life bought an expensive disc player. But I think maybe a $3000 TV deserves better than a $200 player...

sapiendut, those instructions tell you to turn the player on. That is wrong. You have to do this with the player off.

This is the best 4K player out there,i doubt it will be beat unless Panasonic releases an upgrade to this model next year.

Default Play external subtitles from USB when I watch UHD discs

Hello!
Does anyone know if the UB820 / UB9000 can play external subtitles from USB when I watch UHD discs?

Example, the bluray "The Silence of the Lambs (1991)" of Criterion, has only subtitles in English and I want to put subtitles in another language. Can the subtitles be put by putting them through an External USB? Or someone knows a way to add subtitles?

I would be very grateful if someone gives me a solution for this.

Thank you!!

It can not. When it plays disc, USB is electronically disconnected.

How to turn off Optimizer when playing a Dolby vision movie disc?

Can i select HDR format on a dolby vision encoded disc? if yes, then how?

Thanks
I only just recently got mine, so I could be wrong on this but...

HDR optimizer only works/"is on" for HDR10 content. It is not turned on/used for DV material.

You should be able to just turn off the DV functionality in the player settings to force HDR instead.

Yes you can. Under system settings you can turn off DV.

Heads up for the UK members:

The UB820 is now £231.20 ($303) on eBay UK by applying 20% discount code PLENTY20.

Its a no-brainer guys at this price point.
