Just got the UB9000 a few days ago, pretty impress with it. Only thing that’s bugging me is the auto turn off. Is that able to be disabled?

Hopefully, the x800M2 does indeed come out in May (some reports are saying September). If it is indeed September then I am going to get the Panny 820.

That's been bugging the hell out of me for quite some time now.

Perhaps Robert is able to get this across to his Panasonic contacts... Would love a fimware update that disables this or at least makes it optional.

If you don't need SACD playing I'd go for the Panasonic.

Do you think that Quick Start may pose additional wear to a player? As I see it it keeps the main CPU on all the time so the firmware is loaded and audio and video circuitry off. I connected a USB flash drive on my Panasonic UB420 with the Quick Start enabled and when I switched the player off the led on the USB flash drive remained on.
Another question, while playing an HDR10+ on a HDR10+ TV set, what does the Panasonic players OSD show? Do they say they're playing the disc as HDR10+?

The auto shutdown after 20 minutes (including while a movie is paused) was a pathetically bad decision by Panasonic. Competitor's products offer the ability to turn off the auto-shutdown in their settings menu. Panasonic should do the same.

Fortunately, Robert Zohn is attempting to convince Panasonic's engineers that we need that feature (control of auto-shutdown in settings menu). Robert has hinted that there may be reason to have hope.

But... the wait for this feature to be implemented in a firmware update is driving me bonkers. I regret not having the feature EVERY time I use the UB9000.

I'm a projector owner, as well as someone who hates wasting power, so not sure why I'd ever not want auto shutdown. I agree it should be an option if you don't want, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I couldn't live without the subtitle features. I even hate it when I have to go back to my oppo to play other region blu rays....

Well I can respect not wanting to waste power, but I have had multiple occassions when I had to pause a movie for more than 20 minutes.

But besides that, I just hate it when things are forced upon me. It might sound like I'm overreacting but when you think about it: I don't need/want auto shutdown, so why is this not optional?

I thought frequent power cycling of a projector was bad? If I know I'm pausing for less than 30 mins I just leave the projector on.

Apples and oranges. You don’t want to turn on and off bulb, but components are fine.

My wife and I have a theater in our garage (see link in my signature). We entertain 18-22 guests on a very regular basis. Part of the evening's entertainment is a 20-minute pre-show (before the main feature) complete with show-start countdown, Let's all go to the Lobby short, custom Booth Bijou trailers, coming attractions, and a cartoon. I'm in the habit of cueing up the main feature (on pause) in my Blu-ray player well before the pre-show entertainment starts and then using my RF remote to smoothly switch from the pre-show stuff (played via my Mac mini HTPC using VLC) over to the Blu-ray player.

I'm trying to recreate the real theater experience as closely as possible and the stupid UB9000 going into automatic OFF mode is pissing me off.

Yes I can see it being annoying in that situation! I wonder if there is some workaround. I wonder if you had a harmony elite you could create a button for a really long macro to Play - wait 120 seconds (or whatever the max is) -> Prev Chapter, Prev Chapter, - wait 120 seconds, etc etc.

Geez you are way more sociable than me :P My room seats three, and other than my wife, only three other people have watched anything on it...

What I've taken to doing is, while the pre-show stuff is playing, I set my remote (which happens to be a Harmony Elite) in Blu-ray device mode and then sit there and press the INFO button (twice each time) every 10 minutes to prevent the UB9000 from going into auto shutdown. It works, but it's a pain in the arse.

Not really. If I'm leaving the projector on for 30 mins, why in the world would I turn off the player? Especially when the resume function on discs is so spotty.

Granted this is a rare scenario for me. Maybe like once a month I leave the projector running for awhile while we eat dinner or something.
