You don't have to. You can have both if you want, it will just make the picture brighter overall. Try it out and stick with what looks better to you! I have the C8 and use the Optimizer by itself.

As for the bitstream "popping", well, I don't have that as described. Wondering if it's AVR related? |

As long as I use bitstream, I don’t get weird stuff from this set up. I also never heard any popping sound from any of the systems I designed ( a couple using Krell Foundation, a handful of Pioneer Elite SC series, also a handful of Marantz pre-pro)

It may have been posted earlier on this tread but you can do a hard reset on the 820 and 420 as follows: First switch the player on and when it's on wait for a minute or so. Then at the same time push OK, Yellow button and Blue botton and wait for at least five seconds till “00 RET” is displayed either on the 820 display or the TV set on the case of 420. Then press the left button repeatedly until “08 FIN” is displayed. Then press and hold OK for more than 5 seconds till the player switches off. Done. I hope this can be of help. |

No problem with Leon and BHD on 9000. On 820 there were split second freezes. I’m currently in the process of exchanging the disc at Amazon.ca. Hopefully it’s not a mastering issue (although most likely it is)

Problem is it is the popping is infrequent. So I can't readily reproduce it. But it is unnerving enough to fear for my speakers. I have done a full reset on the 820 more than once, and changed cables. I had thought it was resolved with that, but since I can go many weeks without the issue occurring, it eventually did occur again. I am using a Denon 2808, which while not new should not have this issue. PCM would be fine if it weren't for the additional delay on the SB channels. I run my OPPO 103D in PCM and there is no weird delay or auto converting everything to 7.1. I do not get popping from the 103D in bitstream either. There is no reason for Panasonic to be doing any additional processing when decoding bitstream to pass as PCM. |

Is there a way for you to play the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 or would that take too much effort? Obviously, there are some folks with your surround processor who only have 7.1, but I'm not sure if you merely need to change a single setting or if it's a bit of a project. Anyhow, it would be interesting to see you get the "freeze" problem! Thank you, sincerely. I don't take anyone's time for granted. |

Thats absolutely incorrect. There is nothing a newer AVR will do for me other than AV passthrough of UHD (which I don't need) and ATMOS/DTS:X (which I am not ready to do yet.
Just because the AVR is older, it still supports losses Audio and PCM just fine. The fact that Panasonic screws up their audio in PCM and causes bitstream popping (I'm not the only user to have that issue), does not mean its my AVR. |

No I really wouldn't unless I went with separates...and then to see the benefit of that I would need to upgrade speakers as well. I'm eventually going to do those things, but not now. There is really nothing I need from a new AVR right now and the Panasonic is the problem, not my AVR. |

I have the BenQ W1070 (which is 1080p) and watching 4k disks (in SDR) is visibly better. We did comparisons watching some Blu rays and their 4K versions and it is a noticeable difference. |
