That was what I thought since DV environment disables a lot of the player’s control for picture settings.

And all the dreams that the optimiser would somehow employ the dynamic metadata are shattered, though I did tell people not to get their hopes up: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...7#post14732197

Very true, but I will wait. No doubt in a few years I will be upgrading to DV equipment (my main room has an LCD Samsung 4K TV and a UB700 player, so in a few years it will be due an upgrade)

Do you know what Dolby Vision is? If yes then why do you ask such a silly thing Or you want to tone map what is already tone mapped?

DV is dynamic metadata not static. Luminance is adjusted scene by scene (or frame by frame) to the displays max brightness, there is nothing to adjust, it's already adjusted.

HDR Optimizer can make the adjustment of HDR10 static metadata by using maximum content light level (MaxCLL) value. You select the displays max brightness in the settings (Robert posted screenshot about it) and the player will adjust the tone curve for the selected light output based on MaxCLL value so it will lower those bright highlights luminance to make them visible.

I found my answer
At minute 3:55. What happens when you actually play a DV Disc onto...

Very interesting. We have a favorite non-DV TV in a secondary viewing room that would benefit in PQ from the Panasonic UB9000 or UB820 playing DV discs.

But I gather Panasonic HDR Optimizer is so high tech its best to audition it, its various settings, on one's various TV's to make an assessment judgement.

So right now I’m using a JVC RS540 projector with a custom gamma curve installed (I actually have two- one that rolls off at 1200nits and one that rolls off at 4000nits). I feed a regular HDR signal from the player to the PJ and then the JVC is set to it’s BT2020 HDR mode with the custom curve.

I’m guessing when this rolls out, if I use the HDR optimizer, I would just set the PJ to it’s basic out of the box HDR settings with a normal gamma curve?

Anyone tried the 420/820 on a projector yet?

Panny UP9000 style. Right Bob.

Cource if Panasonic won't sell it in the USA(Canada?)...
UB820 looks like a very lot of fun to Explore.

No, Oppo 205 with Dolby Vision this week for my Sony TV.

But yeah, Panny 9000 and 820, that too.
And the future augurs best for Panny because of front projector owners, and some type of flat panel TVs, plus their doors are still open for business. C'est la vie, we evolve, some go some stay some new come under a brighter shining light. Nobody can stop what's coming up.
Oppo is still king till there's no more queen.

I can hardly wait to see the measurements by the professional video experts on Dolby Vision and Tone mapping. ...Guys like Manni and Kris and Tom and others from Canada, USA, UK, France and Germany.

* Keep an eye on Sony too; they know couple things about best cameras and pictures and moving ones.

820 should be better than the 203 since the 900 was.

I liked the 900 and the 203(once they fixed the bugs) since all I used them for is spinning discs. IMO the Oled and other display tonemapping the 820 can do ups the game and Oppo closed the doors.

Finally saw an LG OLED's performance at a friends house. Forget it, cancelling my order for the QLED and returning my UB420 (thankfully didn't plug it in) and getting a UB820. Hopefully by the time the UB9000 is released later this year, there will a firmware upgrade. My friend has a 2016 LG OLED, and after seeing a demo for the 2017 model, I was sold.

Just send that 420 over here to the US....

There should be a decent market of projector users who will never need DV.
