Yes the 820/9000 has the HDR10 optimizer, but that advantage doesn’t mean that all the other abilities that Oppo players possess like multi-regional mod kits, home automation interfaces, playing lossless audio/video files from a connected HDD, or NAS that 820/9000 can’t do. The 205 does 7.1 analog via ESS DACS, even.

Simply put the Oppo players sell for a lot more on eBay then the 820/9000. As much as David wishes to debate that he’ll lose.

Now the 820/9000 are both nice products, and Robert fully backs them, so leave it at that.
John, you are absolutely right. It's just that today people buy Panasonic and Sony 4K Blu players. ...And some Pioneer ones too.

What's selling today for the mid class is the Panasonic 820 (420 in Europe) and Sony X800M2.
For the higher end class it's the Panasonic 9000 and the Pioneer LX500.
I don't include the Sony X1100ES because simply the X800M2 serves both classes for a much better value, in my opinion.

There is also a question of accessibility (dealers), and in times reliability plus customer service with firmware updates.

P.S. But why did I say that; you already knew.

The Sony release looks great. The other? Well, nah. Sorta run of the mill.

You simply have to take a break from posting and read. It takes time and patience to get the most from today's disc spinners and video displays.

Find a thread at AVS forum for your panel display. I suspect you have various processing enabled.

If you are determined to believe the "real or fake 4K" nonsense, then have at it. You'll find plenty of equally uninformed company.

FWIW, I watched the extended cut (UK UHD) of Black Hawk Down with the Atmos track bitstreamed, played on a Panasonic DP-UB820EG. No freezing or audio problems.
Except a very short audio stutter during the end titles at 2:23:48. It was not present on the DTS-HD Master Audio track, only the Atnos track.

Is the error repeatable? Have you tried cleaning the disc?

Yes, it was repeatable but no, I did not bother to spot check or clean the disk.
It was hardly noticeable. But if I am the only one with the stutter, I might check the disk.

I had one stutter on my 820 but fine on my 9000, freeze in the X800 I gave my dad. No freezing on 820 or 9000. Cleaning cleared the stutter on my 820 but freezing is repeatable on the X800 even after cleaning.

Single HDMI output I suspect?

I'd bet that you're a victim of stacking (damage to data side of disc).

Those using the dual HDMI outputs will encounter "freeze" with the following:

The Professional
BHD
The Natural

Sony. Atmos. Branching.

I didn’t get that problem with Professional and BHD on the 9000. But ironically, they freeze using Sony X800

No, Dual. One for video to my TV and one for the audio to the receiver.

I've played both cuts of The Professional on my Panasonic DP-UB420 and I got no freezing, no issues at all, just a beautiful picture.

When 8K TVs will be the norm that's when they'll get the hang of 4K disc branching without issues for all 4K Blu players.

4K is still relatively very new when it comes to branching. Give it few more years ...
We'll have new players and TVs to handle them.

* Stacking? ...Nasty habit.

Hello.
I'm about to buy the Panasonic UB820 and how do I travel to my country, I wanted to know if anyone knows the size of the box of the Panasonic UB820? It is to know if it enters my suitcase.

Thanks!

It better be a carry-on or it may not survive the trip.

Are you in the US or UK?
I'm in the UK and when I bought my player on Amazon there was a flyer inside for the free movie. You create an account with Zoom.com and choose the movie from a limited selection. Just yesterday I received my movie. Very happy as I was going to get this movie anyway.

Why is the 820 so much cheaper in the UK (£290)?
