I'm loving this player a lot. Worth the extra $$$ than the UB420 model for the benefit of DV playback.

Harmony Elite remote uses IR and wifi. You can assign things that are visible (TV, for example) to be transmitted as IR or others that are behind doors or in a different room to be controlled via wifi to the blaster and then the blaster shoots out IR signal.

Amazing. No wonder it's so expensive.

And it has Bluetooth too to control AppleTV and other BT controlled devices. For what it can do, for $250 is not bad at all. Canadian pricing is even worse, about US$100 more

Nice.

I have seen lots of praise for this player.
I’ll probably use PS5 though next year.

Hi all,

Own a UB-9004 for a week now. I sometimes have issues with playing some DVD's which shows black bars around the whole image (on the sides, above and below). Those bars go away when I change the aspect ratio from my tv (LG Oled C7). Shouldn't it automatically fill up my screen instead of changing it manually on my tv?

Sidney

The Panasonic UHD players have no aspect ratio control whatsoever, they just show 4:3 encoded content e.g. DVD with side borders. For actual 4:3 stuff like old TV shows or movies then it's fine, but if you're watching a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD it still thinks that it's 4:3 so you get the side borders AND the letterbox borders baked in and the player can't do anything about it, which PISSES me off as their older BD players have a manual zoom mode. (Anamorphic widescreen DVDs are fine because it senses the flagging and shows them in 16:9.)

Sony players have an automatic 'fake anamorphic' mode for these kinds of discs, OPPO's have an extensive set of zoom controls, but the Panny UHD's? Jog on.

Hi Sidney, definitely not a player problem. This is the display’s setup issue. I can guarantee a billion percent on that. One thing for sure, set the player to 4K instead of Auto (it makes handshake faster) set output to 12-bit priority and set colour to 4:4:4. I also set SDR to HDR conversion for streaming to off so there is no fake HDR being shown on your screen when the streaming content is not HDR.

But the Panasonic is still going to be a superior player than the PS5. Better 1080p upscaling, better chroma upsampling, HDR Optimizer, consumes far less electricity

No buts.

The Panasonic can’t play PS5, PS4 games.

Hi everyone!
I'm going to buy the Panasonic UB820 this week, and does anyone know what the purchase process is like for "Value Electronics"? Do I only pay for the product through PayPal? Where do I detail the address where they should send the product?

12-bit, Auto to 4K, 4:4:4 and SDR conversion all have nothing to do with Sidney's AR issue, nothing whatsoever. Try playing a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD on the Panny and you'll see what I mean, in 1080p or 2160p it'll output a 16:9 image with hard coded black borders on either side plus the top and bottom letterbox borders that are part of the source itself. Only by outputting in 480p will the image be 'in' 4:3 without hard coded side borders.

If you can change the AR on your display then fine, you can zoom it to how you like, but it's super annoying for me because my TV doesn't allow AR changes for 4K signals (the DVD is being upscaled at that point) so if I only had the Panny I'd have to manually change the output resolution to 1080p or less in order to access the AR controls on the TV.

I’m not saying that it is, my suggestion is for him about set up, nothing to do with small area 16:9
