I'll get a picture but no sound if I boot up the player and already had the TV and receiver on prior doing something else. Things like menu sounds work, but the movie and those studio-logos don't have sound.

So i was just going to post something like this. I'm having almost the exact same issue.

On 4K UHD Discs, sometimes I will not get audio when the movie starts. If I fast forward or rewind during the movie, once I hit play, there is no sound. I have to play with it and keep rewinding or forwarding and after a few tries the sound will come on.

One more thing, sometimes when I turn on my system to watch TV, my Tivo gives me a message that says "HDMI not supported" even though the TV was turned on last.

I'm thinking these problems are related and the reason why is because I noticed these issues started not too long after I "upgraded" to Monoprice certified premium HDMI cables.

I'm going to put my old cables back to see if I can troubleshoot.

Does anyone know of any Black Friday/holiday deals for the 820? Or has anyone ever seen it less than $500?

I'm working on a Black Friday deal and I'll get back here with what happens. I'm thinking an Instant Rebate Discount Holiday gift for the enthusiasts would be a nice incentive.

Hope whatever I can get passed through the powers to be makes the UB820 and UB9000 a compelling opportunity for many new users to jump onboard the premium express train to a/v bliss.

Our current UB9000 promotion that includes Spears & Munsil's 10 bit test disc helped many to make the leap to this top rated world class 4K HDR disc player/streaming device.

Just want a really solid Dolby Vision player. Other than the cinema, have only been able to play DV via my Apple TV 4K and it’s been wonderful but feels like DV on disc is the final frontier for me at this point.

For $350, is it worth?
I had the X800 from Sony and it, too, had some issues with playback on certain things that seem to work fine on other players. I replaced the X800 with the UB820 and haven't looked back.

Is it possible with the UB820 to output Blu-ray discs at 1080p instead of being upscaled to 4K? I apologize if this question has been asked before.

Yes, set "Video Format" to "1080p" instead of "Auto" or "4K".

The problem with this is you'll have to change it back to 4K everytime you are watching a 4K disc. Otherwise, it'll play everything @ 1080p. The 820 doesn't have a source direct option.

Does the UB9000 have a Source Direct option like the Oppo's? I have 3 Oppo's, but I have issues with seamless branching dropouts on some 4K titles, where the Panasonic 820 plays them perfectly.

Back on topic, after some searching, it looks like at one point Best Buy had this for $350. Hopefully someone offers it for that low again.

Bestbuy Canada have pulled a fast one like that in Canada. They had a huge discount but they had zero in stock. I believe they did that just to f-up the market price.

Their sales always come up when they are out of stock. ...Simply brilliant.

Just picked up a used one on ebay for $300 for that sweet OLED tone mapping. So far so good. Came with v1.26 FW so I updated and watched a BD and all set. Time to figure out how to unload my oppo 203

Thank you for the information Mr. Robert. You are a true A/V enthusiast!

I do have a question. Do you know if Panasonic is planning or is in the works of creating dynamic tone mapping abilities for their 4K players? I know they have the HDR optimizer, which is great, but the next step is dynamic tone mapping (like what JVC has with their projectors). Perhaps you can let your Panasonic contacts know that there are people who want dynamic tone mapping abilities in their players. If the players can be updated with those abilities via firmware, that would be really fantastic! Or perhaps there needs to be some kind of new hardware addition to make DTM possible, which means new players. Either way, I would be really ecstatic of Panasonic can do this.

Well I bit the bullet and went in and negotiated a deal on a 9000. Didn’t want to wait until Black Friday... gave my dad my old 4K player for his new Sony 4K TV and new movies are backing up here looking forward to getting it and see how nice it plays with the JVC NX5
