Ohhhh, so for better PQ I should be using the ub820 apps, instead of my 55x950g apps.

Really wish they would add Disney+ and Vudu to the lineup in there. Emailed them a couple times. Not looking good.

I recently got a ub820 and i've just had an issue after watching a movie and putting in another movie the movie won't start up, i press play and it tries to load up and suddenly stops.

I turned off the player and turned it back on again and then the disc played fine, its the first time i've seen this issue, anyone else have this problem?

To go back to the remotes for a sec, I decided to take a punt on a Hong Kong ebay seller who appeared to have some sort of 'unbranded' remote that matched the premium N2QAYA000131 model that was supplied with the US UB900. It was only £14 so it was worth a shot, the photo in the listing (see below) has no branding on the remote but what turns up is the official branded remote with a sticker over the Panasonic badge! It doesn't have the 'HDR' button(s) that the later models have but as the Optimiser can be accessed thru the video settings button (which works fine) then that doesn't bother me at all. Took a week to arrive (HK to UK) and was well packed.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Remote-Co...r/273967393492

[edit]

And I just realised that the basic TV functions at the top of the remote are programmable on this US version of the remote so now I can use it to change the volume and AV input of my Sony TV too. Brilliant! (Panasonic removed this functionality from the UK versions of these remotes, I've no idea why.) **** it, even though I bought this one for a spare as I have the N2QAYA000086 already I'm gonna order another one.

Sorry dude. It's bizarre that it says 'worldwide' for postage and then proceeds to list hundreds of countries which they won't post to. Daft.

But for UK Panny owners then I'd get in there while you can, as said it's not the EXACT remote that comes with the newer UB9000 but it's the one that came with the original UB900 and is a billy bargain for £15.

update on my disc freezes from a couple weeks ago -- suddenly Star Wars: The Last Jedi 4K (the others were Solo: A Star Wars Story 4K and MI3 4K although that seems to actually have a scratch) is freezing up for me a bit after the 24 minute mark, with no visible scratches. Wiping the disc did nothing. And resetting the player via the 08 FIN method and NOT setting up the network, making sure the ethernet cord wasn't even plugged in, kept the issue coming.

So I plan on getting the player sent in for repair/replacement via my Geek Squad warranty, but honestly this coupled with my anxiety is killing my love for the hobby. Why the **** should I keep collecting films in this format (and even though I have multiple streaming platforms for personal and family use, I am physical media ALL the way) if I can't guarantee I can enjoy them as they should be later on in the future? I went with this player last year due to the HDR optimiser, quiet drive et al but suddenly I find a disc here and there that just refuses to play uninterrupted.

The optical unit may be failing. Unfortunately, they don't make 'em like they used to. No electronics company does. Get it fixed or get a new one if you have to.

If the area of problem is repeatable, it’s the problem with the disc. I’ve had Transformers Last Knight that pixelates at approx the same spot (+/- 30 seconds) although there is no scratch is visible. I then borrowed my friend’s copy, it played without a hitch.

Sorry, forgot to add in there originally that I've owned TLJ for over 1.5 years, had no problems playing it on this and another player over time, but suddenly I do now. Same can be said of the Solo 4K disc. I'm well past the point of returns/exchanges on almost all my collection (as we all eventually get to), so bringing a potentially faulty disc to a store isn't an option. Disney 4Ks are hard to find under $20 for new additions, let alone replacements, unless I scour ebay where it's a one-disc purchase that might not include a money-back guarantee.

I'll use the warranty and buy a couple discs again if I have to, but if the problem isn't solvable down the line it's going to break the hobby (one I've poured 8 years with hopes of decades more and who knows how much money) for me. And digital's compression/reliability issues aren't something I'm interested in investing in.

I want Panasonic to add Google Movies/Play, which is not available on ATV4K for obvious reasons, to it

I had to ditch the X800 as it was driving me insane for reasons i explained in the X800 thread. i Picked up a UB820 from amazon and im very happy with it so far. Not had a freeze or a single issue with it. Movies that would lock up on the X800 play fine on the UB820 and the HDR controls are also great to tinker with and much better than what the X800 offers. The HDR10+ playback was the icing on the cake. Im also future proofed if i upgrade my TV to one with DV.

Got mine from replacementremotes.com, using a 1st time buyer coupon I got mine for $70. Pricey but worth it to ditch the original remote.

Hey! I'm currently setting up the 820 and have a question. I haven't bought a 4K tv yet nor do I have a 4K receiver. Is it still ok to plug the 820 through my non-4K HDMI receiver then to the tv or do you guys recommend me using the separate audio out HDMI port to the receiver and the HDMI Video/Audio port to the the TV? The TV is also just 1080p. Thanks!

I can’t see the difference between single vs dual output method through my receiver. Some receivers degrade picture quality, though.

Well, this is an older receiver, about 10 years old actually. When I get a 4K TV, I will be getting a 4K capable receiver. I guess I will experiment and see what happens!
