And ive said it before and I'll say it again, I hate the Netflix button above the up button. I pressed the Netflix button so many times while going through the settings. |

Hi guys. I’m having sort of an issue when I originally tried to forced everything to ycbcr 4:4:4. For example the menu on the Man of Steel UHD bluray appeared with the HDR off. And then the movie could or could not start with HDR off, not to mention black levels looked a bit washed out. It was kind of chaotic. I then of course learned the “automatic” option was recommended and all fine since I changed it.
My question is, why the chaos forcing through ycbcr 4:4:4? My display is a Benq w1720 4K HDR projector with the following specs: http://https://www.benq.eu/en-eu/pro...fications.html Could it be that I’m running a 25 feet HDMI Amazon Basic 18gbps cable? If I change ycbcr options from automatic to 4:2:2 (12 bit color) would I notice a visible difference? Thanks in advance |

Question about the "Playback info" and Dolby Vision. Is it normal that the info for DV titles (especially the nits) remains static? Since it's a dynamic format I would have expected the nits to change from scene to scene. Maybe I'm understanding it wrong (or maybe that information is really intended to be used only with HDR10)

The effect I was getting was basically what happens with the infamous 2nd disc of Planet Earth II UHD, where you have to turn the HDR optimizer off and then on to activate HDR. Now having it in Auto hasn’t been too perfect neither since for example in Bram Stokers DRACULA 4K disc I once went from the scenes menu and selected one and the movie showed up without HDR which I had to activate using that HDR optimizer handshake, and just happened once and no more. Its as if the issue was going from the menus to the movie. My Sony X700 player didnt guve me these problems, although I had deep color turned off on that one. What I did have a problem with is loosing picture for about 10 seconds every once in a while, which happened even when was just my player directly to the Projector. This kept happening after getting the new receiver and also now with the new panasonic player, which is why I blame on the non-premium 25 feet HDMI cable connected to my PJ Should I try 4:2:2? will there be a picture quality difference? My PJ supports all the HDMI signals, but its Rec. 709 and doesn’t support WCG (wide color gamut) Last edited by Oscarilbo; 06-08-2020 at 03:42 PM. |

You think? I wouldn’t want my system to choke up with unnecessary/unnoticeable info. Again just want it for 4K discs and occasional 1080 blurays.

If the impact is there I do want to keep using it. My question (pardon my ignorance) is why forcing to 4:4:4 gave me some issues whereas having it in auto does not? even tho playback info still says my player is outputting 4:4:4 at 12bit.

so if I select 4:2:2 I’m basically letting my projector to do the ultimate 4:4:4 upsampling instead of the player?
Again, if there’s no difference in PQ I would prefer to let the player-receiver system to breath a little (with 4:2:2) |

Yep, did that too many times. Ended up getting a 9000 remote off of Ebay for ~$16 shipped. Netflix button isn't in such an annoying spot and is backlit. Also has a subtitles button (but loses the HDR settings direct button, which is fine for me because you can still get to it from the other settings buttons).

Newbie - please be gentle!
I have just upgraded direct from a rather old Sony Trinitron CRT and DVD player to a Panasonic TX-40GX800 TV and Panasonic DP-UB820 Blu-ray. So I have a lot of learning to do, even though my background is engineering, broadcast TV and tone-mapping technology. There is clearly a lot of overlap in the capabilities of the TV and the Blu-ray... My initial plan was/is to just use the Blu-ray as a disk player and nothing more - but now I'm wondering if that is the best setup, maybe I should use the Blu-Ray for Freeview Play etc and the TV just as the display. I would appreciate advice from folks on this forum - and I apologise if this has been previously answered, I did look before posting. I would prefer not to split functionality across both units because I assume there would be some duplication of traffic - and I have limited Internet bandwidth. Thanks for your words of wisdom. Steve |
