Is the 820 like this or does it do it automatically when detecting Dolby Vision content?
For the price of it, it should. That's really stupid. This circle jerk of HDR formats is annoying enough to begin with. I'll probably get an 820 early next month and see how it goes. I've got at least 2 more UHDs coming this month (Independence Day and Pitch Black). We'll see how my Sony handles them. I just want to be sure I don't have issues with GoT in November.

Did you know that the latest UB9000's 1.66 firmware, exclusive for China, allows you to load subtitles from USB drive?

If we can get something comparable for the UB820, this is a real game changer!

But **** the subtitles, have you tried any of the problematic DV titles like Midway and Knives Out to see if 1.66 fixes them?

I don't even mind paying for the bloody thing, but it's like trying to choose the Holy Grail at the end of Last Crusade.

Just have a BUY button, accept PayPal and have a download link.

Am I misremembering it or did their update add Dolby Vision to the 420? or was I imagine it.

I don't plan to buy Midway, but I will get my hands on Knives Out. Is the UK edition problematic?

The US versions too. Midway froze on me at the exact chapter/timestamp noted earlier.

For Knives Out, when I watched it I had DV off in my player (watched in HDR10) so I didn't see the freeze, but I'm sure it's there because it's been reported by several users.

Yes, it freezes in the exact same place as the US edition, may even be the exact same disc contents. I don't know if you've seen the film but in DV it freezes at a very spoilery place every time.

Agreed on all counts. Why he has to be so selective about it I don't know, it's a damned shame no-one's managed to crack the crack yet.

Yes, it added DV because the chipset inside the 420 is basically the same one as in the 820 and 9000, it's just got stuff disabled via firmware.

Your television listed in your signature does not support Dolby Vision which is why you've had no freezing issues.

To confirm: when these two titles are played in DOLBY VISION on the DV-enabled Panasonic players then they freeze up at specific points in the presentation. They do not freeze when played in HDR10.

guess I'm lucky then! I know my player offers the choice of Dolby Vision or HDR 10. Are you saying then that someone could simple choose the HDR 10 option versus Dolby Vision and have no issues?

Your player will just output HDR10 to your TV no matter if the DV is turned on or off.

On a DV-enabled TV then someone could simple choose HDR10, yes, but that isn't the point. DV can provide superior processing on some TVs so if whatever newfangled way of encoding DV that Lionsgate are using affects future titles on Panasonic players when playing *in* DV then people would like to have it corrected at the source playback level, not with a workaround that owes more to luck (and no QC) than judgement.

Like Geoff said, if your TV doesn't support DV then it doesn't matter if you have DV enabled. The Samsung will only play the base static metadata (HDR10).

But for example, with my TV I can opt to disable DV within the Panasonic player and it will play the HDR10. That is a workaround to avoid the known freezing issues.

Surely Panasonic must be working on a fix, right?!

I read somewhere that €30 is the minimum, I put 40 just to be sure and voila.
