I think there was a lower charge for an update* and of course you could probably keep an eye out to see if you actually need it.

*Unless I'm thinking of another service.

I used the firmware on Panny BD80 few years back. They charge(ask you to gift ) 10 EUR. Better turn off auto update and do only for major FW updates.

For some reason they rejected my requests for 900, 820 & 9000 and I gave up.

How is the enhanced firmware delivered? You have to let them know your MAC address, so I assume they tailor it to your device, but does the player detect the update (which your post suggests) or do you download through a link?

I meant to turn off auto update of official panny firmware.
Enh. FW guys will provide a file (Download link) which has to be updated using same procedure as initial update.

I’m curious what 220 Electronics does to their machines to make the region mod not go away when updating firmware that regionfreedom.com doesn’t (unless it’s simply to keep people coming back and spending money).

As idlebrain said, if you flash your player with this custom firmware then you must turn off auto updates (if it's connected to the Internet at all, none of mine are but I know some of y'all like using apps and shit like that), if you don't then the player will automatically update to the newest official version when it's subsequently released and this will overwrite the custom firmware completely. You must only flash it via USB with firmware provided by matey via a download link.

I've still got a BDT310 with the firmware installed and had it installed on several other players before that (Christ, I wish I'd never sold the BBT01 as that was such an awesome little player). BUT I never had to deal with matey directly, as a UK electronics dealer called TPS actually sold the firmware for a while. No hoops to jump through, no silly refusals, you just paid them and they sent it across on a disc. I think I'm right in saying that they sourced it from matey anyway, but a few years back they stopped offering it, dunno why. Maybe they fell out with his Majesty, or maybe Panasonic leaned on them to stop distributing cracked firmware (as TPS sell a lot of Panasonic gear).

Looks like around late July of last year 1.60 came out. I'm actually starting to get a bit irritated with Panasonic about it. They appear to have an issue with a few lionsgate titles that other players don't that they refuse to address.

Perhaps 10 Euros is considered too low to them?

I've read that new players in Europe, 820s I believe, have 1.64 firmware now, but it's not available to download for some reason.

Panasonic players won't bitstream 1.0 audiio tracks as is? I have the UB9000 and while playing A Night to Remember (Criterion) which only has a 1.0 audio track, the player is converting it to 5.1 LCPM before sending it to the soundbar. Is this normal? The player is set to bitsream.

Secondary Audio is off as well, correct?

If so, it's more than likely your soundbar telling the player it will not accept 1.0 (mono) PCM audio data. I have bitstreamed 1.0 PCM to my receivers and pre-amp processors over the years and have never had an issue. I'm not a soundbar fan as there are too many compromises.

Yes, Panasonic players have done this for a while. I've no idea why.

I am having an issue with the 9000 connected to my E6 OLED. I have the player set up for OLED, HDR optimizer on and using the S&M UHD disc and 4000 nit HDR video, Why is the snow more pink, especially on the right side of the image below with HDR Optimizer on. With it off, the snow is not as pink. Why would the HDR optimizer do this?

I can confirm that my 820 does the same with the US A Night to Remember (Criterion), the audio track is shown by the player as "LPCM Mono 48kHz"
and my Onkyo says it receives "Multich PCM 48kHz 5.1ch".

However, DTS-HD MA 1.0 tracks works fine, they show up as "DTS-HD MSTR 48kHz 1.0ch" on my Onkyo, so yes, it does bitstream 1.0 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks.

So it seems the issue is only with LPCM tracks. Interesting.

Thanks to everybody here, regarding the tips to aquire the modified firmware. I went through the process today paid 40 Euro (which it's worth it to me) and had my modified firmware (based on Version 1.66) about 45 minutes after I started the process. The modified firmware works just as descriped, which is really great.
Now I no longer need to be too woried about my old Region A DMP-500 quitting on me, so thanks again.
