First off, I played the notable issues of the UHD's of Knives Out and then Midway, expecting problems with both discs. Knives Out played flawlessly, Midway did have the expected freezes/flaws? So reading this forum and lots of reviews I thought that sucks but if that's the only issues I can live with that.

Well like my first statement says, I either have a defective player or this thing is a piece of sheet (optimizer and all).

Played Honeymooners and the Flintstones, both have playing issues?

Is this an effed up player or do I have to except the player doesn't play everything like my Sony does?

You're playing them in Dolby Vision, correct?

Yes, and like I said Knives Out played all the way through with no hiccups. Midway did have the hiccups everyone's been talking about, 2 spots within about a minute of each other. When that disc froze, I just hit fast forward and the movie resumed without advancing much if at all and the rest of the movie played fine. I've only had this player for a few days and I new in advance that it has problems playing a handful of discs, but I can live with that and hope there's a firmware update that will correct those issues.

My main reason for believing I have a defective unit is because I'm having issues playing standard bd's. Not all, just the ones I mentioned. I know its not the discs because they work perfectly in my other cheaper players?

I have not changed any settings on the player at all, even the hdr optimizer is set at the right default setting for my display.

Also I don't see or know how to do a factory reset? I'd like to try that before returning it.

And finally, I don't know if I want to exchange it or just get a refund. I do have the Sony ubp-x800m2 player that has worked flawlessly for me (I know others have had issues but I haven't) and my finger is strong enough to turn dv on and off I know that's cumbersome for some, but for me, no big deal.

I decided to follow-up on a case I opened with Panasonic NA regarding the Knives Out/Midway DV issue. I received the below:

"Regarding your case, rest assured it's escalated and under revision. We're apologizing for the delay, but rest assured it's under revision with the senior technical department further.

If you encounter more inquiries, please feel free to contact us and we will reply to you.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
Panasonic Consumer Support Team."

Not sure if it means anything, but I just thought I'd post their update.

The only standard blu-ray i've experienced playback issues with is Vinegar Syndrome's release of Rest in Pieces. I sent them an email about it, they said a few customers have reached out about playback issues, and they will review it with their replication team. It played fine in my PS5

Mordor, we have a problem. Disc 1 of the EE of Fellowship won’t play in my 9000. Says “disc is not compatible.” Disc 2 plays fine, as does all the others, both TE and EE. Just disc 1 of the EE of Fellowship. Any ideas? Did I get Smeagol‘d?

So, I’ve been experimenting with the Dynamic Tone Mapping setting on my C9, and I noticed that the picture seems to become brighter when turning it on, and become dimmer when turning it off, and I wanted to ask, what would you guys recommend leaving it on? I’m asking this here because I also have the 820 with the optimizer on pretty much all of the time, and with the player set to OLED.

The DTM of LG is known to take liberties with the EOTF. So you're seeing a brighter image with more specular highlight details resolved...but likely at the expense of lifted black and midtones if they are in the same scene. On the other side of the spectrum, it compresses more the image to squeeze in the peaks with the darker tones so it will potentially crush black or bring down midtones. With off, i wouldn't say it's dimmer, I'd say it's more accurately staying withn its capabilities.

The HDR Optimizer works well with OLEDs because it can tonemap 4000 to 1000 without really altering anything below 1000. From there, let the TV do the rest without DTM.

I purchased Indicator’s Dragonwyck LE a while back and had a rude surprise when I tried to play it in an Xbox One X. Now that my 820 is hooked up, I just tried that disc with the top menu trick and confirmed it works! I started watching it and almost couldn’t bring myself to turn it off and write this post

Grain of salt here... that’s just one of their releases so it’s not a certainty all of them will work, but it’s good news nonetheless.

Ah I see. Well thanks for the help. This was really informative. I’ll leave it off for now then and see how I like the look of it.

But make sure to test out and see for yourself. You might simply prefer another setting like others who have found better results with other methods

I know you've probably already tried this but I had the same issues on my Pioneer with Top Gun, Try cleaning the disc and see if it fixes the issues. I got lucky it fixed mine.

Yeah, I wiped it and turned the player on/off. Still didn’t work. 2020 strikes again.

Not sure if this is the right space for it, but "shotgunning" this question/issue in multiple places

Recently switched from a Vizio soundbar to the JBL 9.1 system. I have a Sony A8H and a Panasonic UPB820 4k player. I noticed I cannot get Dolby Vision with my Panasonic plugged in to the bar's HDMI input. I get Atmos. And everything I've read says this bar SHOULD do Dolby Vision passthrough, but all of my DV discs just display as standard HDR10. I've tried a few different certified high speed HDMI cables and no difference (and never had the DV issue with my old Vizio bar).

Is there a setting on the bar or with the player I need to have active to get Dolby Vision?

Sorry man was hoping against hope for you. But if it makes you feel better I can post compromised pictures of the movie as I am playing it in my machine to your PM box so you can see me enjoying it
