I'm not jumping off a cliff just yet but it wouldn't surprise me either if Panny were pulling the plug.

Same. And it wouldn't come as a shock if they pull out of the TV business in a couple years, either. They're leaving market after market.

I was going to buy the player regardless if he told me this or not, so no reason to lie.

Sure hope it is not true (OPPO, Samsung)

I doubt that Panasonic would go. If they went, so would Ultra HD Blu-ray itself. Panasonic is the only company who still makes players that really get the most out of what the format has to offer (unless other “P” decides to chime in again) so they pretty much own the Ultra HD Blu-ray format at this point. Did you know the DP-UB9000 is actually Panasonic’s very first all-metal (Ultra HD) Blu-ray player? The other companies’ players are only subpar. Korean “S” only went because of poor sales due to other companies like Panasonic outdoing them in the player market. I was never a fan of anything that company has put out. I had one of their washing machines and it broke after just the eighth year.

Robert’s DP-UB9000 page is still here and the machine is still in stock.

And Panasonic doesn’t have any plans of discontinuing displays anytime soon, because if they did, they wouldn’t have let Robert start importing them.

The DP-UB820 is still available at VE too; sale priced even.

Seriously, Panasonic stops making UHD players...

I've made plans for stockpiling HD players at least.

I just picked up a UB820. What is the verdict on Dolby Vision? Too many issues and not enough of an improvement over HDR + Optimizer? Or is the picture still superior if you have a tv-lead Dolby Vision display?
