Geez, that is not a good sign for the format if Panasonic bails. Could be some sad times ahead

I assumed they would at least keep producing them even if they aren't R&Ding anything new.

I feel like if Panasonic was getting out of the BD/UHD player market, people like Robert would have let us know by now.

lol! I'm not sure you wanted to buy 3 of them or not. I have only 1, the 820 and (knock on wood) haven't had a major issue with it. I'm not why people have been having issues with the 820 and 9000 lately. I wonder if it could be manufacturing issues with the players since COVID 19?

Thumbs up

Thank godzilla for Panasonic and Pioneer and Sony; they're still making HDR Blu-ray players.

I put in 3 to ensure sarcasm was detected, but I'm starting to think pretty hard on a backup to my current 820 other than my PS5, which lacks DV and the HDR optimizer for when I upgrade my projector in the nearish future. I've had good luck with my 820 other than one weird issue of discs not being read if left in the machine, I always have to hit eject and close it again and then it reads fine. Weighing the need for a warranty claim atm on that.

If Panasonic is truly calling it quits, I will buy another one sooner than later since I'm so heavily invested in the format. I really want the UB9000, but could buy 3 820's as backups for the price of one of those. Tough call.

Hey guys, I just ordered an 820 from Amazon, excited for it to arrive! I was banking on my PS5 being a decent 4K player but it just isn't cutting the mustard.

Anyway, one feature I'm excited for on this is the top menu trick for region B blurays I have.

I'm going to post discs here or in the respective threads that work with the trick, but for now, does anyone know if the top menu trick works with the UK release of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D'? Similarly, does the trick work with Ratatouille 3D?

How did you get a Blu-ray DVR?! I thought that was only for the Japanese, although I would love to have a Blu-ray DVR here in the U.S.! I don’t want to have to rely on a hard drive for programs I want to save! I don’t understand why we don’t have Blu-ray DVRs here and have to store everything on a hard drive that has a chance of failing and only works in the DVR it came in, and I don’t want to be limited to only standard-definition permanent storage (DVD DVRs.)

I don't mean to have poor posting etiquette, but I want to bump my own question already since it's been another page of posts. How do you people use this player? Do you use Dolby Vision for DV UHDs or do you only use HDR10 & the Optimizer?

Dolby Vision unless it's one of the disks that won't play correctly, in which case I force it back to HDR10.

YMMV etc.

Panasonic have sold them here in Australia for years:

The model in the below link is a 4K player, and a BD recorder:

Maybe, just maybe. We have some new players, and Robert is professionally keeping a lid on it.
