Hi all, I have a question that I hope I can get some advice on regarding the Panasonic DP-UB9000.
I have a modded model for all region playback and I recently popped in the German DigiDreams Studios' Platinum Cult Edition blu-ray of "Zwei wilde Companeros" and the movie played fine, but all the extras are just a black screen with audio. My first instinct was check the firmware (it's current according to the machine). Could the extras be encoded differently? Am I missing a setting on the machine? All other discs I put in the machine play fine. My Samsung display isn't 4K (neither is the disc), but my thoughts do occasionally turn to the HDMI cables I'm running, but the film played fine. Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated. |

Another member (I think they were using a 1080p display too) has the same issue, it's either due to the encoding of the content (does any video information show up when you press PLAYBACK INFO?) or an issue with the mod itself.

So I guess it's a bug in the software (perhaps combined with the mod). |

I'm lucky as I have an Oppo 105D that I can watch the supplements on... but if you just have the Panasonic UB9000 then the supplements (especially on German discs) seem to be a black screen only (but with the audio). Sorry. |

Yes, it definitely seems to be that the mod is what is causing this. It's a small issue for me as I'm lucky enough that it only happens on a few discs with some supplements. I play those on my other player. BUT... if you are inconvenienced by this 'issue'... definitely go after the refund.

Pretty much everyone here has suggested that the issue sounds like it is due to the modification, but saying that the Panasonic players aren't immune to little foibles.

So I bought the 820, fantastic player so far. Noticing details that I didn't notice with my LG UP970 or UBK80. The remote pisses me off sometimes tho, I accidentally press the Netflix button or the Stop button when I'm trying to pause something, lol.

Just been catching up, it's been a while since I visited this thread.

In my case their explanation doesn't hold water in any case. UB820 connected directly to my TV. Which is a Panasonic GZ OLED... |

So... an update on this weird phenomena...
I got a few German Reg 2 blurays... one is the Kevin Bacon revenge flick 'Death Sentence' and the other was the 2003 Denzel Washington thriller 'Out Of Time'. Both films looked spectacular - even at 1080p! ALL of the extra supplements on 'Death Sentence' played without a hitch, but NONE of the extra supplements played with the video on 'Out Of Time' (audio only). Weird. |
