To wit: if you’ve got one cable going from player into the AVR which then sends the video signal on to the TV over HDMI and keeps the audio for itself then that’s causing a separation of A/V timing. If you’ve got one cable going from player into the TV which then sends the audio signal to the AVR via eARC and keeps the video for itself then that’s causing a separation of A/V timing. And, of coursh, if you’re using both HDMIs from the player, one to send the video signal direct to the TV and the audio signal direct to the AVR, then that’s also causing a separation of A/V timing. Dunno. |

BTW I realise the inanity of stating that there’s an A/V separation taking place because it has to, otherwise you don’t have the video signal going to the TV and the audio going to a sound system!
![]() The point was to state that eARC isn’t the panacea for sync problems that people might assume it to be, because the signals are still being split off in certain ways. It could be that the TV's HDMI processor is adding a fraction of delay to the audio, or the other way around: due to all the gubbins related to video processing it could be causing a lag in the video signal which would make it fall behind the audio signal, there’s a reason why lag times are a standard feature of TV reviews these days. Indeed, in the Speed thread there’s someone using eARC who says that the audio is slightly ahead of the video. |

Okay, so, how am I supposed to cable this stuff?
I have TCL 5 Series TV Panny UB820 Sony receiver 5.2.2 channel I'll get the model number when I get home. Do I run the player to the tv and to the reciever at the same time? One for video, one for audio? Or some other way? |

UB820 --> Sony Receiver --> TCL Just the way it was meant to be. If you use the TV apps, just make sure you use the ARC input on the TV (on the AVR the main HDMI out also serves as the ARC), and make sure your TV-Audio auto switch is enabled (via CEC commands). You'll send both audio/video from UB820 to the AVR through a single HDMI cable. |

![]() I don't know off hand which HDMI slot you need to connect to for Dolby Vision on the input side of the AVR (I'm assuming all are HDMI 2.0b compliant) just make sure by checking the specs and manual. I'm certain on the TCL the ARC one would work. |

I've noticed that not many (if any?) TVs themselves support DTS:X audio, which I guess means those TVs do not pass the DTS:X signal through eARC to the receiver. The UB820 supports DTS:X, so I suppose users are connecting the video HDMI to the TV and the audio HDMI directly to the receiver?

If your AVR supports DTS:X you just plug your player in to it, as you don't have to send audio to your display anyway, but you have options with two HDMI outputs. |

I have the 820 and I'm noticing some occasional white flashing on HDR10 movies. Whenever watching standard HDR10 movies on the player there will be times in the film where the entire screen flashes white. I haven't seen this issue present on any SDR or Dolby Vision content on the player. I have a Sony Z9D and haven't experienced any flashing like this with my PS5 or Xbox Series X so I'm fairly certain it's the player. Is this a known issue? Should I try getting it sent in to be fixed by panasonic? Some movies I've had the flashing with are Dunkirk, kong skull island, Rear window, and just now with incredibles 2. I can't seem to replicate the issue as when I replay the scene where the flashing happened it doesn't reoccur

Unfortunately have already tried changing the HDMI cable. Doesn't seem to make a difference. As for the HDMI socket I have all my devices going through my denon reciever and haven't had issues with the other devices with HDR (SHIELD, PS5, XBOX). Now that I think about it though do you think the socket on the reciever could be an issue?. I could try changing the UB820 HDMI cable to the 8K (hdmi 2.1 port) on the reciever and see if it makes any difference. Not saying the higher HDMI spec will make a difference but I typically use that port with my PS5 so I know it works

I have the white flashing issue but specifically with Dolby Vision content. I’ve found setting my LG TV to ‘game mode’ fixed it, but I still have an issue where the image goes briefly dim on various shots and only on some 4K titles. No issue with HDR10 on this player, and no issues with HDR10/DV content on streaming apps.

The buid on the UB9000 is great!!! Was in Best Buy Friday and was able to pick up an open box UB9000 for a great price of $549. Thing is super heavy kinda like the OPPO203. Going to retire my UP820 which I replaced my OPPO203 with. So far so good with the 90000. enjoy yours.

And the weight of the 9000 (17.2 lb) is closer to the Oppo 205's weight (22 lb) than the 203's weight (9.5 lb).
@ $549 I'd buy four of them; so that I can give three of them (birthday's presents) to family members and friends. ![]() |
