Also, please post your issues about 'OSD Distortion' for 4:3 content, if you have pictures it's even better. Quote:

I'm planning on buying the UB820. I've heard that there have been issues with DV, e.g. clipped highlights. Has anyone here experienced this? if so, have Panasonic released an upgrade fix? Also, I read somewhere (possibly here) that LG Oled owners have hade issues specifically with the UB820 (I have an LG CX 65").
Is the UB820 still worth the money? I've looked at the UB450, which is priced at circa 200$ compared to 550$ for the UB820 here in Sweden. It lacks the HCR processor but according to a review (I forget the site) the UB450 doesn't have the DV issue with clipped highlights, although it performs worse in every other aspect of PQ, still being a very good player though(according to the reviewer. Is the extra 350$ worth the money? I know the UB820's design/build quality is better, and that it has better audio options, the remote, display, etc. I'm talking about PQ. Is the difference significant? I'm willing to pay extra for a bit better PQ. However, if it's barley noticeable I don't think it's worth 350$. |

I have an LG C9, so using the 820 with it is a great combination!! I have only experienced 2 issues with my unit but those issues have been solved. Other than that, it's been an awesome player for me!! The Optimizer alone makes the player worth it!! I highly recommend it! |

Just out of curiosity I just recently purchased UB820 4k bluray player and planning to purchase Panasonic OLED HZ980 or HZ1000. From what I've gathered it's better leaving the HDR optimizer off on the player since the Panasonic OLED capable of tone-mapping the HDR 10 content much better, is that correct.

EddieLarkin, I've covered your wish of 1.33:1 matting, 2.35:1 matting I will personally cover, but wondering why you want 1.85:1 matting?
1.85:1 is extremely (or at least quite) close to 1.78:1, is there actually content showing boom mics etc in that small portion of the full frame? Please explain why you need 1.85:1 matting, thank you. Last edited by stmhlm; 05-25-2021 at 02:58 AM. |

Of the 3 aspect ratios it's certainly "needed" the least but there are still many discs that "open up" 1.85:1 transfers to 1.78:1. It would be nice to have the option to return these discs back to their original aspect ratio even if the difference is minimal.
Indicator in the UK do this on their Blu-ray releases for the same reason, if they licence a film and it comes to them as 1.78:1, they will add the small black bars to the transfer to make it 1.85:1. After all, 1.78:1 is not a filmic ratio and never was. |

They can’t be bothered to release a firmware that fixes known issues. It’s wishful thinking that they would create firmware that adds more features to a player that first was released in August of 2018.

Amazingly it seems Panasonic have awoken from their slumber & released a firmware update for the UB-450/150 players last week on the 19th of May, so it "may" bode well for UB-9000/UB820 owners, I still don't understand their resistance to release the 1.66 firmware to all regions.
