TCL 5-Series. Dolby Vision. As I said, Black Panther needed the player to have both DV and 10 turned off to display properly. Far from Home needed them turned back on. |

Knives Out froze at about the 2 hour mark and does not resume. The only way to watch all the way through was to disable Dolby Vision. Ghost in the Shell would flicker throughout the entire presentation.

Is this firmware update only for Europe/UK or is it able to be installed in North America?

However, turning HDR10+ "On" does absolutely nothing since the discs are either in HDR10 or Dolby Vision. The only way that option affects a disc is that it actually has HDR10+ on it. But both of those discs don't so there is no point of having it on. What I can say is that you seem to be having issues with HDR10. You said you went from playing Spider-Man in HDR10 to Dolby Vision. When playing in HDR10, what setting do you have the HDR Optimizer set at? Last edited by PUsokrJosh305; 09-29-2021 at 02:44 PM. |

Typical, I watched the new UK version of GitS just the other day. Checked beforehand and it also had the flickering issue seen on the US version, so I disabled DV to watch it. Might have to watch it again fairly soon if that issue has now been resolved thanks to the updated firmware.

Really excited about this update. I bought the 820 just a week ago as an upgrade compared to my older player, knowing that despite the fact it didn't play all my discs properly, it was still (probably) the best readily available player for my needs. One week later, now it plays all my discs. Win win!
Can't imagine how all of you who have been waiting for years for another update feel. |

Seems the update is not available to me. Says I already have the latest which is 1.60. I'm in the US.
EDIT: Oh ok. I'm suposed to install it manually via a USB key right? I hope won't cause any issue with the fact that it's been modded to be region free (by 220 electronics). |

Yup got the update today. Had the display on another input and the tray wouldn't close. After a few tries I switch to the player input and bam, there's an update. Knives Out now plays without a glitch even though the player made a brief sound which I assume is a layer change at 2 hrs. Edit: Also tested the German release of Unhinged and no more flickering.

However, some newer mods use third-party firmware hacks (not to be confused with the old remote hacks) that only get firmware updates from whomever modded the firmware (220 itself or someone else). In that case, you'll have to wait for the firmware modder to apply its hack to the 1.69 firmware & make it available for download. In that case, installing official firmware via USB will likely remove the region-free capability. I own a 220-modded UB820 myself, but I'm not sure which method they used -- especially since the region selection on the remote does NOT reboot the player (more likely with firmware mods than mod chips) and IIRC it does NOT have the customary external sticker saying it's been modded (used with mod chips as opening the case technically voids the factory warranty, though 220 will usually honor it anyway). If you can't get firmware 1.69 on your modded UB820 via direct download in the next few days, I'd suggest contacting 220 before installing it via USB. 220 offers a lifetime warranty on its mods just in case (especially with sneaky memory location issues on mod chips), but installing official firmware via USB over modded firmware could jeopardize its region-free status. |
