Does anybody know how this affects the 420? It seems to fix a lot of Dolby Vision playback issues, but I figure it must do something else for them to bother adding it to the 420 as well, which doesn't play DV.

I think it's based on the models prior to the 9000 (the 900?), as they didn't have the Optimizer. I have an official one and whilst I don't use it much, it's a nice remote.

The 420/820/9000 share the same base chippery with or without DV, so when they do an update for one they do it for all. But yeah, it's tough to see what's been improved at the basic playback level with this update.

Didn't blue underground titles such as Zombie have flicker issues when played in DV on the panny? Anybody test these or was it due to something else? I would try myself but Im in the middle of moving and don't have access to the discs too easily.

There is a debate to be had how much detail is inherently a result of increased resolution vs improved bit rate vs better colour bit depth ect ect. But not in the stall that guy is putting out.

That is actually a copy of the remote for Panasonic's first-generation (pre-dynamic HDR) Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the DMP-UB900.

After three years, my brain has gotten somewhat used to the absolute POS remote from the 820.

So I’ve been slow to purchase a 4K player and had been considering the Sony UBPX800M2, but the Panasonic caught my eye at a Dallas Best Buy. I saw that the remote isn’t the best, but was wondering how it is as a player. Appreciate any honest feedback.

Updated my 820 to 1.69 today and tested the UK Sony Almost Famous Bootleg Cut. It no longer glitches at chapter 7 on the DV layer.

For lolz I also tried the defective Donnie Darko theatrical disc. Surprisingly the disc is still completely fooked and still looks like Donnie Darko: The Stop Motion Picture

Looked exactly the same as before to me. But at this point it seems like we're living on different planets so, whatever.
