I learned that from one of Vincent's videos (I think) and there's a disc with a test pattern that helps you select the correct output for the display you have. If it gets downcoverted then upsampled again, the quality ends up being worse. Maybe it's like that with older TVs? I don't know, but it seems to me if you send a 4:4:4 video to a modern 4K HDR TV, it should except that signal and run with it. |

Cable and TV settings are fine. The Auto or 4:2:2 sends out the correct HDR BT.2020 4:2:2 12 bit signal the player is sending. |

just set it up--- for some reason when I check the playback info on the Panny-- it now shows zero info on the HDMI out...?
it shows 1000 nits on the media part but nothing in the HDMI out info... is this because I have it set to OLED instead of high luminance? EDIT-- just switched to Super High Luminance and no difference-- is this because of Dolby Vision? I notice I can't change my tone mapping with Dolby Vision... Sony TVs only display full 4:4:4 in game/graphics picture modes. In their other modes, they roll it off.
Panasonic players, when outputting 4:2:2 require 12bit upsampling for some reason. Personally I use 4:4:4 10bit output and keep my TV in Graphics mode ![]() |

I gotta aks: have you made sure that the HDMIs on your TV are set to Enhanced and not Standard? Because 4K24 12-bit 4:2:2 is capable of being handled by the HDMIs set to Standard (as per the 300MHz limit of HDMI 1.4), but the same signal type in 4:4:4 is too much. |

I know this is the wrong thread but I've had a couple other questions here regarding my new OLED 77" and Panasonic 820.
Everything is working great but I'm having an issue that I don't understand. I have my cable box and player running into my receiver and from there to the TV on HDMI ARC 2. I get sound from my player and sound from cable. I just hit the Netflix button on my LG remote and while I get a picture-- the volume I'm getting is from cable............... no volume at all from the Netflix app... any ideas? |

I also read you need a HDMI cable with Ethernet for this feature to work. Essentially you need a cable that has a return data channel to get the audio signal from the TV to the AVR. If you use optical you are limited to lossy codecs but streaming services only use lossy codecs for audio other than some music services. Last edited by Tok; 10-28-2021 at 02:08 AM. |

I have the ARC setting right... I'm just gonna leave it for now--- I have enough work to do getting my cable and Panasonic settings right!!!
I'm thinking I will have to run output from the TV to the receiver to make the apps have sound... I'm not 100% on Dolby Vision yet--- I don't like the fact that I can't make adjustments on tone mapping in that mode--- but the one movie I checked (Casino Royale 4k) looked pretty great!! I also checked a non Dolby Vision 4k movie (Backdraft) and it looked spectacular too!!! |

Isn't the HDR optimizer only relevant when watching HDR content? I thought it did nothing when using DV.

Funny, that reminds me when the dollar coin was introduced in the United States and vending manufacturers (while making vending machines that could accept dollar coins) did not bother flipping (or turning on the option) inside the machine to accept dollar coins!
