I recently picked up the UB820 and have a question about the audio setting.

I'm utilizing both HDMI ports for the best look and sound.
My set up is:

Onkyo TX-NR787
TCL 65R625 QLED 6 Series
and the Panny.

Digital Audio Settings as Follows:
Bitstream and BD Secondary - OFF

Curious as to why the UB820 when hitting the audio button on the remote pop-up display says Multi-Channel/TruHD even if you scroll to the D.Atmos setting.
My Onkyo shows Dolby Atmos is being decoded.

So my guess is the disc is decoding properly through the receiver as it should and not worry so much about what the UB820 shows on its display window?

thanks for any advice!

The players cannot decode Atmos or DTS:X because the object based information is stored as metadata in the Dolby/DTS bitstream, it just ignores what it can't decode. And not just the Pannysonic, there isn't a standalone player on the planet that can 'see' Atmos/X so it will not show up in the info screen, but as long as it's bitstreaming the signal over HDMI to a suitable receiver then it will pass the Atmos/X just fine. Entirely normal behaviour.

han solo ...hello they have only .. I have a panasonic ub 820 I would be interested in putting on the modified firmware 1.69A .. for the external subtitles ,,, but I have seen that the subtitles that come out are white with a purple background .. do you know if they are going to modify for letting white subtitles appear without a purple background ... it has been possible to contact them to tell them ... thank you

I've had this for about a week and noticed that some blu-rays look fine and others have a flicker/white speckles during playback. When I switch the output to 1080p for blu-ray discs it inproves the situation but the flicker is still there, slightly. If I upgrade my HDMI cable to 2.1 from 2.0 does anyone think this may fix the issue without me having to manually switch outputs when going from blu-ray disc to 4K disc?

White speckles is a sign of inadequate cable. But flickers at 1080p is a tad strange.

I want to post the proper settings for the player but the mods here seems to think I’m posting because I want to promote myself. Oh well.

Just ordered an 820 from BB for pickup tomorrow. Only had 2 left. Redeemed $175 worth of rewards points on my credit card to take the sting out a bit. Looking forward to seeing how much better it is than the Xbox Series X.

It is a LOT better. If it’s not, then there is something wrong/incomplete about your player’s settings. You can DM me and I’ll give you the settings.

Thank you. It’s going to be hooked to a C7. Main thing I want to try and clean up is some gradient issues in things like sky shots. Right now some look like they have multiple separate steps of color instead of a smooth blend. I know some material that’s just inherent and also my tv is no longer the best but I’m sure it’s still got some wow left in it. It’s not a professional calibration at all but I’ve been down enough threads to know I’ve got the tv dialed in a good amount.

That’s usually because you don’t get 10-bit colour. My video covers that setup too.

The Panasonic DP-UB9000 for $999.99 from B and H Photo and others is Panasonics top of the line flagship 4K Blu-ray player. However, Panasonic second best 4K Blu-ray player is the DP-UB820-K which sells for $499.99 and is out of stock at many places including B and H Photo out of stock. However Amazon still has the Panasonic DP-UB820-K in stock for $499.99.

I’d like the settings too. Been so long since I went into the menu I don’t recall what I have things set at.

It sounds like a cable issue, getting a Premium High Speed HDMI Cable might help (it will if the speckles are caused by cable bandwidth issues), but it's odd that you're not having issues with UHD playback. Changing from a Premium High Speed HDMI Cable to a Ultra High Speed cable won't make a difference unless you're exceeding 18Gbits/s with the cable you've got (which shouldn't be possible with the player's setting anyway) or the cable itself is faulty.

But without seeing what you're seeing it's hard to say.

Strangely, I've gotten drops & speckles at the main player menu for the 820, but never when I play a disc or in the disc menu.

I've ordered a new Zeskit 2.1 HDMI cable to hopefully put that to bed as I assume it's a cabling issue like it usually is.

It happened to me too on the main menu but not during movies. Was running a thick 25ft non active before. Upgraded to a Ruipro active six months ago and it fixed the problem for good.

How long is your run? If it's longer then 20ft I would go active. Ruipro are slightly expensive but they are one of the better active HDMI cables out there(tested by AVS members). If shorter than 20ft I would go Bluejean cables.

I tested and recommended Zeskit to my clients. Thus far about 98% success rate.

For non active, shorter around 20ft is easy. Bluejean cables at 100% successful rate . Active is a different beast.

May I have these settings? I'm happy, except about the occasional step of color seen with some blu rays. I dreamt once I stopped those from happening.

Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean active and non-active?
