I’m referring to the active version only.

I don’t think there’s something wrong with LGs firmware but I think the combination of their firmware and these discs cause the problem. The reason I don’t think it’s an LG issue is the only discs where I’ve experienced this are from Blue Underground and now Shout.
Just popped in KL's new "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" 4k disc and this issue is there for that one as well. Have you gotten any more feedback as far as the brightness fluctuation issue?

Came with 1.64 FW. Loving it so far. Nice to not hear disc spin during playback. Already don't like the remote for two reasons. Not backlit and that damned Netflix button. People have mentioned alternative remotes but are there any that are backlit?

That’s unfortunate to hear, I was planning to pick that up. I tried factory resetting my player and TV, also bought an Audio Quest cinnamon cable, it made no difference.

I sent Shout an email saying I could only resolve the issue by disabling DV and they responded “glad you found a solution”.

These fluctuations are not too noticeable unless you’re in a dark room, that might be a factor in why some people are not reporting them.

You need to update it to the new 1.69. Also check out the settings tutorial here:

How long is your run? If it's longer then 20ft I would go active. Ruipro are slightly expensive but they are one of the better active HDMI cables out there(tested by AVS members). If shorter than 20ft I would go Bluejean cables.

I can't say enough about the Zeskit cables. They can be stubborn to move and work with, but their performance is at least up to par and they appear to be launching newer thinner and more flexible lines soon. I tried some monoprice cables and had issues with both. I am about 99.9% sure the Zeskit cables will solve that problem with the menu since I can send full bandwidth through it from my Series X. I even have another 16ft one I could test but will wait till my new AVR and other 16ft cable gets here to re-wire everything. I assume the menu is sending a higher bandwidth signal that doesn't apply on actual disc playback.

My run is just under 16 feet because I have my TV mounted on a swivel ceiling mount that is attached to ceiling roller track. That way I can position it where I want it depending on seating, and I can move it out of the way of the projector screen behind it when I use the projector. There's really no way around the length I need.

I've tested my Series X on all of my zeskit cables and they all work for all features, so I'm 100% out of 5 so far. 3ft, 6ft, 2 x 10ft & a 16ft. I've even tried the 10ft and 16ft chained together with a Zeskit coupler and that also worked flawlessly for 4k120, VRR, DV, etc., which surprised me a bit.

For fun I'm going to try the 16 + 10 + 10 footers all together with 2 couplers and see if it miraculously works.

I did not really notice this on my setup. Was there a specific time or scene to watch for or would it just be completely apparent at any time?

Near the beginning (during or right after credits) there's a scene where a priest is on a swing set. Soon after a woman is walking across the street. You'll notice a brightness fluctuation during that scene when viewing on Dolby Vision.

Note that it seems to be happening on LG OLED TVs, so if you don't have one you might not have the issue.

macroblocking / freezing on playback of Aquaman 4K (usa) on my ub820

Warner Bros seems to have a lot of 4K discs with problem , other studios no problem in general

other titles affected :
Prestige 4k (italian import)
Dark Knight trilogy (italian import)
IT 4k (UK import )
Wonder woman 4k (UK import)

Anyone got solution for macroblocking/freezing issue?

Same here. Dark Knight Trilogy, Aquaman and Wonder Woman all viewed in the last 2 months and didn't have any issues with my 820's.

I guess this explains why DV from the 820 looks so much better on my X900F vs literally every streaming device I own. Not even the latest gen AppleTV allows for TV-led dolby AFAIK.

The open box ub 9000 on woot dropped to $675.99. I ended up buying it as I don’t have a DV capable player and the price seems good.

I just downloaded the firmware file on to my laptop, but I have no idea what the hell any of that stuff on the Panasonic page means about "formatting" / "rooting" a USB stick - can I not just put the file on to the USB stick and plug it in, like with my TV? I thought I'd just have to put it in a specifically named folder or something. It even says something about the USB stick having to be between 256MB and 2GB, l must be being stupid, I don't understand any of it. I have a normal 16GB USB stick, will that do? Please help. Lol

Is there a button on the remote to turn the subtitles on and off without having to go to the movie menu? I click on cc and turn on close caption but it doesn’t work and I have to go to the movie menu to get the subtitles.

Yup seen it the other day for that price and even though I have the ub820 I was so close to pull the trigger at that price. Great pick up. Can't bet that price. It's OOS now though.

Hello guys,

I got my Panasonic UB9004 recently, and I've tried playing a Region A disc (The day after tomorrow) and I got the "attention bla bla" message since my player is region B.

Is there any way I can make the player work with Region A discs? I've tried the stop + top menu trick but it doesn't work. Also, regarding the updated firmware from regionfreedom, it seems that the website is down so there's no way for me to look into that option. The player has the 1.69 firmware.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don’t think Sony implemented TV-led DV until their 2021 models. I’m not sure if it’s been added for older models through a firmware update or not. I think the only way to get TV-led would be through the internal apps. I use the internal apps on my TV and find the DV/HDR playback to be much better on the 820 too.

The X900H from 2020 was Sony's first TV model with TV-led Dolby Vision but it wasn't until 2021 that the model appeared on more sets. It was added to the X900H through a firmware update around October 2020 according to HDTVTest.
