Hi,

For those who use Panasonic UB-9000/9004 with chinese or enhanced firmware - could you check please, is it possible to activate external subtitles via provided feature for the discs which aren't contain any "built-in" subtitle tracks? For example I have some japanese BD's without subtitles and I want to add them using "external subtitles" feature (I know that I need to put a file with subs on a pen drive)
I read somewhere this doesn't work on OPPOs BD players but maybe Panasonic does.

Thanks!

How can you tell which version of ub9000 is which? My outer box says ub9000pc1.

Came across another issue today. I previously bought The Mummy trilogy individually cased from Best Buy a few years ago (the trilogy box set was known to keep the discs in poor quality), but the first film comes up as "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT" and does not play on the player. The other 2 films worked without issue. Is this more of a disc issue than player issue? I don't have any other 4K players to test the disc.

Just put the 4K disc in my UB820. It was a pixelated mess, probably due to the shit packaging the trilogy is housed in. I cleaned the disc and it played fine after that in the UB820 and Xbox Series X.

Yeah I did clean my disc too, but it still didn't work and still said Copyright Infringement, which is just really weird to me.

Probably just a bad disc that the keys can’t be read so it throws a Copyright flag error.

I've heard talk of Arrow Region B discs being playable on the UB820. Can anyone who owns Arrow's The Long Good Friday disc confirm that it plays back on this? Would like to know before I import it. Much appreciated!

Anyone had this issue with the 820? I got the machine today and after setting it up it seems to be outputting mono soundtracks as PCM 5.1 (and this can be seen onscreen after pressing ‘playback info’).

This has happened on both One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing (BFI Region B) and Magnificent Obsession (Criterion Region A). I’ve yet to check other discs.

Although my Yamaha receiver picks it up as PCM 5.1 it is mono though as only the centre speaker is in use.

As far as I know that movie is supposed to be in mono (centre channel only). Did you follow my guide (see signature)?

I’ll check out your guide, thanks.

The actual audio was mono but the player was outputting it in PCM 5.1.

I'm not 100%, but I think this is an issue that's been mentioned before. I think others were able to replicate the same problem without resolution.

It's not a problem, it seems to be an actual "feature" of Pannysonic players and they've been doing it for years. Small amount of discussion on it here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post16627040

Thanks for the info. Weird decision but at least nothing is wrong.

The other thing I’ve noticed is the sticky/laggy buttons. Changing audio can take a second or two to react after pressing the up/down buttons.

What audio settings should I have on the UB-820? I don't understand most of it. I watched Ratatouille on Blu-ray the other week and realised that it was playing the lossy Dolby Digital track instead of the lossless PCM - I thought the player would work it out automatically. I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to audio. Haha

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Every Arrow title I’ve thrown at it that’s Region B locked - Battle Royale II, Demons (as Arrow sent me both the corrected Blu-ray and UHD), and Shock Treatment - have worked.

Older discs that carried PCM quite often didn't default to that track, they start with the lossy DD 5.1 instead. There's no auto switching here, you have to manually select it in the disc's audio menu.

I just popped in the Ratatouille disc and switched the tracks in a couple of places. Dolby Digital is A LOT louder, but also I noticed my rear speakers were barely doing anything for the PCM track. There's a scene where Remy (the rat) runs from a jar after being released and you hear his feet pattering suddenly from the rears on Dolby Digital, but nothing on PCM when turned up to match the volume. Is this right? The Dolby Digital track seems better to me. I have the audio settings on my TV and UB-820 set to bitstream, do I have to manually change them to PCM in order to play a PCM track properly or something?
I find it all very confusing haha
