Optimizer set to On may complicate things if you are actually sending an HDR signal to the projector. I would just use the standard HDR out with your low curve and compare that to SDR2020 out without your curve (gamma set to 2.4). But you can try it the other way and see.

Thanks Robert. So the UB820 understands the functions that are missing on its own remote. That will certainly make me buy the UB9000 remote once it becomes available.

I ended up watching half the movie with my low lamp HDR mode and the second half with the high lamp HDR mode....Both had the "HDR Optimizer" turned "ON" with the HDR mode set to standard. After the movie was over I re-watched several scenes with my low lamp HDR mode, but changed the HDR setting to "Natural Environment". This put the slider at +4. Seems like this is as close to my high lamp mode I can get, but keeping it in low lamp. Now that I have done that and then read what you wrote, I am wondering if the Optimizer was really doing anything at all being engaged. Sorry for sounding so uneducated. Should the HDR Optimizer be set to "ON" only if you change the signal to SDR 2020(in the Panasonic menu)? Then selecting the low lamp curve Chad installed? Then are the HDR settings of "Standard", "Light Environment, ETC only to be used when you turn the HDR optimizer to the off position? I feel confused now... lol Thanks. |

For a projector I would recommend using the SDR2020 mode and not using your curves at all (at least compare the two and figure out which gives you the image you want). If you want to use your curves, go into the HDR setup menu in the main setup and select projector for the display type. Then turn on HDR Optimizer. This will tone map down to 500 nits. I can't imagine this would work well with Chad's curves though, but you never know (I don't have his curves to try out).

1. Turn on SDR2020 and use my Gamma 2.4. Then run through the same scenes I did last night. 2. Compare the curves I have with Gamma 2.4 Couple more questions: Are you suggesting comparing Gamma 2.4 vs. my curves, while keeping the projector in SDR 2020 mode? When you suggested turning on the HDR Optimizer, would be done with my Chad curves? Do I run the HDR mode in standard? Thanks, |

Ok. I'm thoroughly impressed. Tons of HDR control and even the HDR>SDR conversion while keeping BT2020 4:2:2 looks amazing. I'll be sticking with the HDR signal.
My Epson dynamic range in signal menu is set to "auto" instead of "auto-bright" and gamma at 0, color temperature at 6500k in natural mode. On panny, HDR optimizer is on and color adjustment is boosted to +12. Nothing else. Display type set to Basic/Projector for optimizer. HUGE step in the right direction from my old Phillips BDP7501. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Do you guys know if there is a way to time stamp a scene to return to it quickly?
Used to be able to do this with my Phillips. The player also isn't remembering where I left off and asking if I want to "resume" when reloading a disc. Any ideas? |

I am outputting sdr bt2020 to a jvc rs4910, which does not do hdr. So I am not sure what turning on the optimizer actually does in that case. The dynamic range control makes a noticble change when turned up or down.

HDR optimizer doesn't do anything when SDR signal is being played as far as I can see either. The range adjustments do.
