Sorry for the confusion because what I wrote was about TVs only, projectors are an uncharted territory for me.

And yeah, I know the results might be better on a Sony TV because they're great when it comes to image processing.

I know this isn’t the exact forum for this, but I’ve got a Samsung UBD K8500 and I’ve been having some problems layback issues. Random blu rays won’t play on it, I get some sort of “Cannot play disc” message. Most of my Vinegar Syndrome blu rays won’t play (but the 4Ks play fine). I heard that Samsung won’t pass some necessary update, anyone else have similar issues, and if so what’s the fix, or is there one? Thanks.

I finally had a disc get stuck last night. I'd hit open and the readout would say "Open" but then it wouldn't and would just go back to reading the disc. No amount of turning it on or off, unplugging it, resetting it with the remote, etc. worked. Finally, I just hit the front with my hand and boom, it popped out. ffs

If it's connected to the internet shut it off/disable it. Never allow it to connect to the internet. See if any of these discs play. I like the Samsung UHD players but with no firmware updates as Samsung stopped manufacturing disc players you are gonna have a ton of future problems with discs. Consider getting a newer UHD player if you can't fix it.

Your drawer just got stuck. Hopefully it's working fine again.

I recently bought an A80J and have been wondering if I should let it handle the upscaling. I’ll have to test out a few discs later, so far I’ve only watched UHDs on it.

Do you have Dolby Vision enabled on the Panasonic? I’ve seen some mixed reactions to DV on Sonys TVs.

I used to let my Sony 900F handle the upscaling when I had a Sony player but let the Panny handle it now just cause it's easier, you have to change resolution setting then a couple prompt screens. It seems to do as good a job as the Sony does. On DV make sure you check TV settings once it goes into DV mode, mine had completely diff settings for DV and HDR10 and they were kinda wonky, so I just replicated the settings(aside from slightly higher contrast)I used for HDR10

It's minimal but DV w/native 4K resolution looks best to my eyes

DV is fine on my OLED. I Use DV Bright.

The Panasonic doesn't have a source direct resolution. It auto upscales everything to 4K. It wouldn't be worth the hassle to manually toggle every time you watch a 1080p movie.

I know people get obsessed with wanting their shiny new TV to do upscaling, but you're not going to notice a difference for the tradeoff of convenience. Upscaling resolution isn't that hard these days, and you'd need to pause and pixel peep test patterns anyway.

With that said, Panasonic is known for their upscaling too

I tried asking in the A Hard Day's Night 4K thread but got no response. Has anyone had issues playing this disc in the 820? I get audio only but the disc works fine (albeit with no Dolby Vision) on my Xbox. I am on my second disc, so it seems like a player issue. Firmware is at 1.69. I've had no issues on other discs (that I'm aware of).

Also...the wifi hasn't been working properly either. I connect to my network just fine, but it continues to say I'm offline. I had to do this most recent update the firmware via USB. I hope something isn't wrong with the player.

Thanks for any advice! I tried looking through this thread, but it's gargantuan.

Do other Dolby Vision titles work fine on the UB820? Also what TV are you using and have you tried different ports on the tv?

Spun without missing a beat on my 820. Given the other issues, are you still in the return window?

Yes, other DV titles work. Just spun 12 Monkeys a couple nights ago without a hitch. I've had no real issues with this player besides the wifi/connection stuff of late. I have a Sony 77A80J, and I'm using the HDMI3 port (with eARC). I haven't tried other ports. I don't see why it would matter if using that port has worked fine for other 4K discs on the 820, and I'm able to play this 4K disc (also through HDMI3) on my Xbox Series X. Perhaps I'll try a different port, but I've been too busy to tinker lately.

I suppose I'm still in the return window, but I find it hard to believe it's a disc issue after already getting the set replaced once.

I appreciate your replies! I'm still at a loss for why this would happen. It seems very odd, as I could find no similar reports online.

Those Sony sets tend to have toggles for DV which can be a real bugger if they aren't set correctly. I'd verify DV is on on the non 2.1 ports

You have to go into the settings on the TV and activate Enhanced for the HDMI ports to get Dolby Vision.

I appreciate the thoughts, but Dolby Vision is and has been working fine on my TV. The port has DV turned on. If I had something wrong with the DV setting, it would have manifested itself in all of my DV movies. No other disc I've used has ever given me audio without video - just A Hard Day's Night 4K.

The reason the DV wasn't working on the Xbox is simply because the Xbox doesn't support it for movie playback. It has nothing to do with my TV. At least that's how I understand it. Even as someone who's historically been pretty good with tech, the bugginess of the newest devices has frustrated me quite a bit.

That’s an interesting problem, have you tried disabling Dolby Vision on the 820? That could help you narrow down the problem, also are you running the 820 through an AVR? You could try plugging it directly into the TV to see if the problem persists. My best guess is a setting somewhere is throwing off the playback, I doubt it’s a defective disc.
