Is it still the recommendation to leave DV disabled if you have an OLED set and just use HDR10 tone mapping from the 820?

I'm not sure when that was stated but a lot of the DV issues for specific titles (Ghost in the shell and knives out for example) have been fixed since 1.69. I personally tend to keep it on.

Just depends on your TV. I have an A9G and I get better results (and consistency) disabling DV and sticking with the HDR10 layer. My TV has undefeatable dynamic tonemapping, but it's faithful to EOTF tracking. With DV, I notice some occasional cruch or dark "posterization" on some of the torture scenes.

Probably no easy way to sell it, so simply see if a local thrift store will come and get it. I didn't want to be bothered with trying to sell my 2008 50" Samsung plasma TV, so I called a local thrift store to come down with their truck and pick it up. They later sold it for $80. The thrift store's goal is to help wayward young people, so it was for a good cause.

Got a update emailed for my region modded 820 from TPS today.
1. Deactivation of DVD UOP 2. Deactivation of Blu-ray PUO 3. Deactivation of automatic power-off 4. Support for external subtitles via USB 5. Support for High (500 nits) Luminance Projector (UB820, already a feature in UB9000) 6. Selected region shown on player's front display Seem to be all good stuff. :-) Really happy with this player. |

I also kept it "Off" due to how decently good the Dynamic Tone Mapping is on the C9. However, these newer Sony films are graded so crazy that the regular HDR10 presentation is lacking compared to the DV presentation. The last thing as to why I kept DV Off is that my C9 seemed to dim down in DV content vs. HDR10 content. It was the darn TPC settings in the TV. I finally said enough is enough and turned off the setting in the LG Service Menu. I don't get any dimming now so DV is turned "On" at all times now for any DV title. Basically, for any LG TV owner, have Dynamic Tone Mapping "On" for any regular HDR10 title and keep DV "On" in your player for any Dolby Vision title. That's at least my rule of thumb now and it works! |

Rookie question... would running the Panny straight to my soundbar and having that transfer the video to my TV degrade the visual quality at all? I'm having some issue with ARC audio cutting in and out when going through my TV for whatever reason. This way works flawlessly. Just making sure I'm not throttling anything

Even though I have a newer receiver, I still plug my Panny 820 directly into the TV but use the other HDMI Port for audio going directly to my receiver that way there is no distortion in video quality. |

I am in the process of getting a second Panny 820 from the recent Amazon sale after I had to return the previous model I had for only five months because it was having the dreaded disc drive issue. I got the extended warranty this time and I have my fingers crossed that I won't run into that issue again or at least not so soon. What is that punch trick that I keep seeing on the thread? lol.
Also, I would like the recommended settings for my SonyX85K so I can get get the most out of the HDR optimizer. I have two Sony 4K players right now and they work well but I already miss the way the 820 made my 4Ks and regular blu-rays look. Plus all of the other nice bells and whistles. I am just hoping this unit lasts me longer without breaking down. Because if it happens again? I honestly might have to just give up on Panasonic entirely. And I really don't want to do that. I hope the player doesn't let me down. Also, how do you connect a soundbar directly to a reciever with HDMI? I keep looking up ways to do that online and I keep finding no actual helpful answers. I have a Sony Reciever and it has multiple ports for video and audio but nothing specific labeled for just audio. So I am confused as to which HDMI port to use and where to connect it to my Elevate. Is it the Earc port or the regular HDMI 1 or 2 port? And would you recommend connecting the player directly to the TV or using the reciever or soundbar for the connection? I have been using the soundbar currently and that's because it has a 4K pass through option. And it has erased the issues I was having with the sound cutting out using Atmos. I don't want to run into that issue again, so I am checking to see if that is a good option for optimal playback as well. Last edited by Vindicator89; 10-14-2022 at 05:12 AM. |

Plug your player's HDMI 1 into your TV and send the audio to your AVR or sound bar with HDMI 2. |

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should just connect the player directly to the TV? Which HDMI port? The Earc? Or just the regular HDMI? I have the player connected to my AR which is connected directly to my soundbar with one Earc cable connected directly to the TV.
This has been the only option I have been able to use so far that hasn't lead to annoying audio drops when playing Atmos or DTS content. Either I am doing something wrong when I try to connect the player directly to the TV or I am using some kind of incorrect input for the audio. It's strange that this is the only option to date that seems to work the way I want. |

If your AVR doesn't have Atmos then use the sound bar in the same way. There shouldn't be a need to use both. |

My AVR has Atmos. But I am still not quite sure where I should connect the player's HDMI 2 to for just audio. I have a HDMI port to connect directly to the TV, one for a blu-ray player, a media player and I believe a cable box.
This is where I get confused with where to put the secondary audio cable to. And I guess I should connect the Earc port directly to the AVR as well? |
