I have 820 and 9000. Never a problem with either.

Now we just need them to ship their TVs to North America.

Studios aren't going to produce titles that can only be watched on a "dead" format so I think we are safe for a while.
That's what worries me too. If new players aren't being made, there's no point in releasing media. I mean you can still buy CD players, record players, etc. so I'm hoping that someone will stick around. Even if it's only 1 or 2 manufacturers.

I just hope it's enough to keep the format alive.

I guess that Sony will keep making players as long as they release discs, especially if (and that's a big if) Panasonic decides to quit. Unless they want to steer us all towards the PS5

Just bought my ub820 and I LOVE it. 1080p movies look stunning and cinematic and 4K films legitimately look arguably better than the movie theatre.

This has probably been covered already but is there anyway to adjust the Off timer settings? I appreciate not worrying about the burn in on my new OLED and the energy saving but I swear it shuts off in about 10 minutes and it gets super annoying as it often doesn’t save my place in certain movies and I lose some of my subtitle preferences. Any way to extend it to say a more reasonable 15-20 minutes before it shuts down?

15-20 minutes is a long time for a blu-ray player to be on pause or being inactive, when it's not necessary. It's a safety precaution to protect your equipment. 10 minutes should allow the user ample enough time for a bathroom break, or whatever to resume the movie. If you're getting snacks, that should already be prepared before you start the movie.

The only way to disable the timeout is to do a region free mod.

Why anyone would want to disable the Off Timer control completely, when it's a safety feature to protect your equipment, just in case if the user accidentally forgets to turn player off. Not only it protects the Blu-ray player, it also protects the TV screen from potential burn-in images or ghosting.

I'm not interested in anyone's motives but that is the only way to adjust it. Either answer the question that was asked or keep quiet. I don't think anyone needs your advice.

I don't have a Panasonic but, if it's 20 minutes, then that's plenty enough time. It shouldn't even be that long!

So what are you even trolling here for if you don't have the player? Get a life.

You don't tell me to keep quiet, just who in the hell do you think you are, the forum police? I say what I want to say, and if you don't like it, tough titty.

I'd disable it if I could but I would never leave it paused for a long time and don't have an OLED tv. I've had it shut off one time was annoying, I usually take a mid movie break for bathroom or cocktails

I seem to recall the ub9000 stops spinning after being on pause for a couple minutes. Haven’t done it in a while, so would need to double check.

Do you guys manually pull down the front panel each time you use the ub820 player, or do you just let the player push it down when the tray opens? The little mini booklet that comes with it seems to suggest that the best practice if for you flip it down by hand.

Yeah, that's really cutting it since you can't find HDMI cable at my local Walmart for just $3.

With the current promotional sale, I just couldn’t resist the 9000, though I’ve been perfectly happy with both Sony X800 (first version and upgrade to M2 for Dolby Vision). I get that it has some slight annoyances like the auto shutoff that can’t be extended or overridden. But reviews indicate it’s solidly built, and I really like the thought of having a front display again. I hope it doesn’t have playback errors I’ve read about in various commentaries, but I’ve read about them on the Sony players, too, but have never experienced a problem. I’m shuffling the players around in the 3 set ups and the 9000 will go in the primary home theater space with the recently acquired Sony Z9J. If any current Panasonic owners have suggestions regarding settings, I’d welcome thoughts and experiences. I intend this to be the last UHD player for the foreseeable future, yet hope manufacturers continue to offer quality players for years to come.
