I believe I bought it this year, but didn’t register. I’ll dig up the invoice.

Funny, because my Oppo 103 seems to have graduated from being able to read when opened and closed to needing to be turned off and on again, when this happens. It’s still rare and some discs seem to trigger it more often. I’m not worried yet; it’s been doing this for a long time now.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to stop by and say hey.

I bought my UB9000 in July (2022) and I haven't looked back.

My Oppo died in 2016...they repaired it....made it worse...then went out of business and I was using $50.00 blu-ray players until I could find something I could be confident in and the UB9000 was it.

I love that you can do custom wallpapers and I wish the slow-motion was better and that it had A-B repeat but it's a completely phenomenal player.

So that's my introduction to the thread.

See you guys around.

Just got the official Panasonic N2QAYA000172 remote direct from them for 41 quid delivered:

Well worth it, has a nice weight to it and the buttons aren't spongy or too small.

NICE!!

I still use the (now defunct) MX500 Home Theater Master Universal Learning Remote. So my actual remotes are sitting in stasis in a drawer until I need them for a reprogramming.

When I google it the site is still shown and it says that I visited the site on December 14th for example. Does this mean only the server is down or is the site only blocked for the public?

I'm not sure, when I went there it was one of those, "Buy this domain." pages.

What are the chances Panasonic will issue firmware updates for problematic 1080p blus going forward? Will they even care? Or will they just make sure 4k discs are looked after?

I am happy with the picture quality which is top of the line, but I can't be having a player that swallows discs and simply won't open. Incidentally, it swallowed the disc which was a CD whilst playing the CD and using the analogue out. The house move after Christmas will mean we have a dedicated cinema and will render the need for one device to do two things (music and video) moot.

Also, speaking as a deaf person who has a GoPro and has videos filmed with it subsequently subtitled, the seeming lack of external subtitle handling on USB is a huge oversight. I have a Sony in the bedroom which handles subtitles perfectly so I'll just get another Sony I think after Xmas.

The 820 can't play subtitles when there's a file and subtitle file on a USB stick/drive?

I have been unable to get the subtitle file to work unless the sub is embedded directly in the file in a container like MKV. Perhaps we've been using the wrong format but we've tried various SUB and SRT types and varied the character-set too. No matter what we do, we cannot get it to work!

By the way I have 9000.

The 820/9000 can play Bluray & 4K discs with external subtitles on usb if you have the regionfreedom or rattlebyte mods installed. The 9000 with chinese firmware possibly can do it too.

Nice! I bought a no-brand version of this and it was crap - when you pushed down on a button, half the time it stuck in the down position.

You're in the UK - can I assume would this work with a US 820 player? And where did you get it from? Thanks for your help!

I assume it would work with a US player too. Just make sure to get the product code N2QAYA000172.

I got it from https://www.pas-europe.com/
Not sure if there's an equivalent for the US though if that's where you're based.

I think the US version is N2QAYA000175, but I think any of the 900/9000 remotes should be fine.

Yup. And by the looks of it no such functionality, which given the fact it's a premium product and in the UK there's actually a legal requirement to make "reasonable adjustments" is not great.

It's fairly typical of an industry that is almost unique in being able to have what it does subtitled and thus accessible to those who cannot hear making it something that deaf people are not limited in consuming, but despite this massive opportunity it's an afterthought.

The Pannys are just really, really, really, really, really, really bad for USB file playback in general, not to downplay your struggles but it's one oversight amongst many.
