TV apps work perfectly with DV as will as any files with DV off a USB drive. If I switch DV off the menus come back fine. BUT anything plugged into those HDMI inputs will sometimes have the screen go black for 2 to 3 seconds before coming back. Again this is the second TV that is working this way and I don't know why. I will say that all the cables im using are these Monoprice 18GB Certified cables. Im going to try new ones that are 2.1 but I doubt it makes a difference.

If they're cutting to black it might just be the TV adjusting from one kind of input signal to another. Can you post your player's settings? there might be something there we're missing.

Ohh I know BUT after looking around I have found that TCL can be picky with HDMI cables. Higher end ones tend to do better. Again it's just a last effort. They will be sent back if not.

Just tried playing The Little Drummer Girl 4K discs and my UB 820 is playing them in 1080??
"3840x2160/25p Dolby Vision" to "1080/50p SDR/BT.2020" Also, if I press status on the remote control, it says "Dynamic Range Conversion Output" and "Dolby Vision Output: 1080/50p" It's on Filmmaker Mode too, so Dolby Vision isn't applying either, by the look of it. What is happening? Last edited by Jack Priest; 12-24-2022 at 02:00 AM. |

It's possible one of your settings is converting it. What's your 4K/60 Output, Color Mode, Deep Color Mode, and HDR/ Color Gamut settings??

As you all know, I have a LG C9 and I turn "On" Dynamic Tone Mapping as well as use the HDR Optimizer from my 820 (it's set at Super High Luminance) for HDR10 movies. I know that LG's DTM can overcook a lot of the picture, making it way too bright in certain scenes. I've been toying around with the Optimum HDR Settings, specifically the Dynamic Range Adjustment setting and I have noticed that as I decrease that setting, the overcooked picture looks a lot better and honestly normal.
Now is this how you go about using the Dynamic Range Adjustment or am I ruining my picture by adjusting it? Last edited by PUsokrJosh305; 12-24-2022 at 02:29 AM. |

Several months ago, I was having some problems with that TV and as a precaution, Best Buy switched out the motherboard. I was also having those Dolby Vision issues at that time, so I showed it to the tech to see what he thought. He was perplexed by it, too. My guess is that it's a firmware error on TCL's part that is impacting certain sets. |

The problem only impacts some Dolby Vision discs. If I turn off Dolby Vision on the player and have it revert to standard HDR, then the menus are fine and subtitles are, too. Dolby Vision is also fine on TV apps - It's only a problem with discs. |

I have a question about the replacement remote and doing the set-up:
So I bought a replacement remote and I thought I was getting the right one, it’s a Panasonic not a knock-off, but turns out it’s the 131 not the 172 so it doesn’t have the HDR button. Looking on eBay I get a knock-off 172 for about $10-12 but everyone seems to recommend not going with knock-offs. All the genuine Panasonic 172 remotes are $66-$80. I’m not paying that, sorry. So I want to set my player but the final step in the video is to push the HDR button while a movie is player to make sure the HDR setting is set to Standard. Is there a way to check that setting with the 131 remote that I have? |
