Thanks Robert for the information.

It looks like Panasonic has improved on some features like the info screen. It looks like the new Panasonic players are displaying some key information like frame rate, resolution, HDR info, and audio info for both the optical disc source information and the HDMI output. For those that do not need SACD and DVD-Audio playback the Panasonics most likely well be a good 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. I know family members that have been using a 2010 model Panasonic Blu-ray player for 8 years with no problems.

Does it look like this will support HD/object audio over DLNA? I don't believe the previous versions did this.
Thanks

Last time I checked all of Amir's post after about 2005 were deleted. Has his own store and forum now.

Now back to the Panasonic's. Sure would like to know what they plan to do about updating their Adroid app.

I requested the following video streaming apps to be included in the Smart hub along with all of the normal hobbyists speciality video apps and all of the normal gaming and audio streaming apps:

- Netflix

- Amazon

- VUDU

- HULU

- Youtube

- Internet

My pre-production UB820 sample does not have the normal apps, but Panasonic's "Market Store" is available and has a ton of apps to download. I selected 6 apps and they downloaded in seconds and the navigation is very quick and easy to use.

Let me know if anyone wants any additional pre-loaded apps and features added.

Hope this helps.

Amir is a member of the Home Theater Forum. He basically had a few posts in 2012 and one post in 2017.

Every one of Panasonic's UHD players has had that info screen, and several of their Blu-ray players before that...

Many of his posts after 2005 are still there. But I agree, best to stay on topic.

He recently measured an Oppo BDP-105 player. When the Panny 820 shows up, if people are interested in measurements, he can do that, for free. Someone would have to send it to him. After the measurements he'll send it back to his owner, free of charge. ...And same with the 9000, he'd measure the DAC(s), the audio signal transfer.
He'd tell you how the parts inside are implemented, good and bad, their quality...all that audio Panasonic jazz.

Apple's support is not spicifically for Sony, they just have good support for all standards.

Yes, Sony's UBP-700 will support DV low latency and the UBP-700 will work on all TV brands and models that have DV enabled with and without low latency and of course HDR10 will work perfectly.

The problem is that no UHD/HDR BD player that is DV capable will display DV HDR on Sony's X1 Extreme TVs, they will show DV HDR content in the SMPTE HDR10 standard and as you said DV content streamed will display DV on Sony TVs that have X1 Extreme processors.

This issue is only related to BD players that support DV HDR and when playing a Dolby Vision HDR encoded disc to a Sony 2017 or 2018 Sony TV that has the Z1 Extreme processor. It does not effect any 4K HDR BD player when playing any disc including 4K HDR10 discs or any Sony TVs that has the X1 processor.
I'm very sorry for not understanding.... I had a hard time following it towards the end.

Is this saying that Sony tv's with the X1, will never have DV over HDMI?

Could you make your just a bit dumber for those of us not educated on some of these terms?... if you can... I'm a pretty simple person at times.

Thanks in advance if you find the time.

Hi Robert. It is so good to hear from you again! A little bird told me about this thread.

I would be happy to measure both of those. Please contact me on ASR Forum and we can take it from there.

@CYMBOL, Sony TVs with the X1 processor will not be enabled to decode Dolby Vision HDR.

Only 2017 and 2018 TVs with the flagship X1 Extreme processors will be Dolby Vision capable with a future firmware upgrade.

Will apps like HBO GO and Showtime Anytime be available? Also what music subscription services are in the store?

any updates on 420 availability? I have a projector, so no DV for me, the 420 seems to fit the bill better in my situation. I sold my Oppo 103 and current 4k player with intentions to buy an Oppo 203- but now that they are EOL I'm waiting for the new Pannys...

@Wobulater, Thanks for your suggestion, I'm on it!

@rprice54, Panasonic will not be bringing in the UB420 to the USA. If it helps we just lowered the UB900 price to $399 delivered.

Robert,

Were you able to verify that multiple custom user modes can be saved with the tone mapping settings?

Well triple poop emoji and lots of expletives... but the UB900 doesn't have the new tone mapping which was my main goal... Shouldn't have sold my Sony player...

So why do they include the 420 in the January US announcement?
