you should never turn it on in the first place.

Thanks, I only just got a UB-820 player so didn’t have the optimiser. LG seem to have the TV DTM turned on as a default for hdr.

Someone else up thread suggested turning on DTM but turning down the optimiser’s dynamic range to -5 or -6. I’ll experiment with both approaches, but will probably stick with off.

Had a frustrating time with CEX here in the UK and a UB9000 bought in March of this year.
The player is still working perfectly but the remote has randomly decided to pack up. Contacted CEX support only to be given one option of returning the whole lot online or to a store.
I have no plans to do that though as they don't have any more of the UB9000 in stock to replace it and buying a brand new player at nearly £1K is not a viable option for me financially atm.

Does anyone on the thread know of a cheaper place to buy a genuine 172 model remote than direct from Panasonic or is that the best option?

If you can do without the button for the HDR settings, you can pick up the remote for the 900 for not too much on eBay. Not 100% but the 820 remote might also work.

The 9000 remotes fluctuate in price, depending on how much you paid for the player, £50 might be a tough ask.

The player was £520 with a two year warranty. Will likely just get a remote from Panasonic directly as they sell them for £37.24.

Not necessarily. I have found if you set the player to OLED or Super High Luminance, the Optimizer does nothing to anything that is graded at 1,000 nits or below, which Disney discs are usually graded like that (not sure how the new Avatar is though).

Like the 1st Avengers film doesn't show any info, so because the mastering monitor is at 1,000 nits, the Optimizer does nothing. Now, if you have an LG OLED and turn on DTM, there will be a difference. The problem is that the DTM function over brightens the overall APL at times.

That's where the Dynamic Range Adjustment slider comes in. By lowering that (from I found either to -5 or -6), the overall APL dims to where it isn't overblown. This then allows DTM to be On while still maintaining a more accurate picture than you had before.

All of this of course works if you have any LG OLED that is older than the C3. The C3 has improved DTM functionality so I am not sure where the Dynamic Range Adjustment would be.

That's not too bad, weird that the remote isn't covered by the warranty, but CeX gonna CeX. Is the warranty just a refund if the player breaks?

The warranty covers everything but I don't think CEX have any system in place for providing spare parts. They just gave me the option of returning the whole lot for a refund which seems rather silly for a faulty remote control.

I've now ordered one directly from Panasonic. Cost just over £41 including the shipping. Not ideal really but I don't want to return the player as it works fine and due to unknown job security atm, I can't justify paying £900+ for a new player.

So the disc tray on my machine won't eject again. Since it first happened a few months back it's done it again about 10-15 times and it's driving me f*cking crazy.

What is it with some Pannys being great machines and others being duds? I'm ready to chuck this f*cking thing out the window.

The buttons is slightly different where the Mirror/Cancel buttons would be for the Canadian remote.

What is mainly holding me back is that I have the US remote, but it is not broken, so I can manage without the time skip buttons.

I've just had the screws left undone so you can easily pull the three pieces off on top of it and jimmy the disc drive open in less than thirty seconds.

Which means this clown at their repair center didn't bother reading the ticket. Well, they're going to get and earful from me when I pick it up. This will 100% not resolve the issue, since I did it a month ago, and it still has the same issues. Totally disappointed with their repair center thus far.
I went to the store today and the repair was worse than I thought. The guy changed my forced 4K output to auto and said repaired. Total BS and just lazy. So I spoke to the Geek Squad manager and contested the repair. He totally agreed with me and provided some outstanding customer service. They're supposed to send it back three times with the same problem within in a year for it to be junked. He junked with the store taking a hit, ordered me a new player and gave a four year plan for $20. I am really impressed with how the Geek Squad manager handled this.

I am not happy the store is getting dinged for this. They're taking a $1K hit on this and the depot service center should take the hit. I am going to call the corporate number and mention that along with giving the store huge kudos.

My new player is being shipped to the store as per my request and should be there later this week or early next week. Hopefully, this new player works fine or Panasonic is junk.

It's the stores fault for the lousy service at first and they made up for it but these odd issues with these Panasonic players are concerning. It's not Best Buy's fault Panasonic is sending out some lemons to consumers. Another user in this thread has a bad optical drive. Lots of problems reported with the 820 and 9000. My UB9000 is still working perfectly except for it getting a little hot now. I would not be surprised at all to turn it on one day and the motherboard is fried.

To all with working players in this thread, cheers. I hope they keep working and working for you.

I can't find it but a user in this thread way back said there is a way to force the disc drive to eject on the bottom with a paper clip.

I take it you've had it a while? Have you ever cleaned the fan?

Good idea. I'll give it a go with some compressed air. I'll just take the top cover off and spray any dust out.
