Ub820

I have it connected to a Samsung QN65Q90 tv. HDMI audio is connected to a Samsung HTB-H7730 home theater system.

I have a ub9000 model from 220 Electronics with firmware version 1.60. I have it connected to the internet, but when I try updating the firmware version via the internet it shows a message stating that the installed version is the latest version???

What firmware 1.76 did NOT do is add the ability to turn off the automatic shutoff after 20 minutes on pause. Screw you, Panasonic!

Thank goodness I'm moving away from physical media. If I'm lucky, streaming will help put Panasonic out of business.

The 20 minutes standby function as actually disabled on my region modded 9000. Yay.

It’s great when it plays. But I can’t tell you how many times this thing gets hung up, just turning on. It just freezes with “Welcome!” on the front panel and I have to constantly press the power button for 5 seconds or do complete reset. Both of them I’ve owned have done this. It’s so damn irritating.
So I guess turning on the player using the “eject” button might’ve been causing my issues. Idk why. Never had that problem with any other player.

Been using the power button the last 3-4 times…No issues.

That function is there because of EnergyStar or whatever requirements. What made you think that an official update would remove it?

I did. Quick start actually helps in this Situation. No issues when it’s enabled; starts right up. No hang-ups at all. But I don’t want my player running all the time in quick start mode.

Can confirm it doesn’t frickin matter how I turn on the player. It eventually will get hung-up in the start-up process. Why can’t crap just start; without issues?

Updates require waiting for them to become available to them (last time was like 5 or so days) and then calling to ask for the file to be emailed. If you manually update online will break the region free capabilities of the modded player requiring technical support.

Ah okay. I assumed it was already available for download, but I checked and says I'm up to date on 1.69. I figured they used rattlebyte, seems like it's not. Do you actually need to always call and ask for a file? Seems a little extra. Figured it'd eventually be available for download via the player since all their instructions say it's fine to update via internet for firmware updates. I know from experience that updating via USB will break it.

Just in case this helps anyone, the "Panasonic Remote Method" works for my un-modded 820. The only discs I have tried are UK and Germany, and the German ones are the only ones it won't play.

It also doesn't work for PAL DVDs, right?

The remote trick was inconsistent enough to where I just went with a region modded player.

Once I learned the remote trick, I went a little crazy on imports and it only worked about 50% of the time. Still cool but I wanted peace of mind with all imports so I just went the modded route.

Interesting. An update after all this time. I think it showed 1.76 or something with the previous being 1.69 perhaps. It's flashing Update 5/5 on the display. Been doing that for awhile now. Hope it's not bricked.

... and just as I typed this it came back to life. Yep, it's 1.76.

Now if I could get an update for the Oppo 205. It goes totally nuts if I press pause. Losses the picture. That's why I'm using the Panasonic.

I had the same problem when I needed to go to firmware version 1.69. I contacted 220 Electronics and they sent me a file to load onto a USB stick.

So it would seem. There is a difference.

1. No Panasonic logo
2. Button "response" (how it clicks and feels) is much worse. Not bad but clearly worse than in the original remote.
3. Back light hue is ugly cold white and intensity of it is too high especially in dark room compared to original quality remote.
4. Original remote has more weigth.

I have both purchased from remote-control-world.eu

This is awesome, I did the firmware update. Looks like the flickering problem on some DV enabled discs (Kino for me) have now disappeared. Ronin was one that had a lot of flickering happening, but now it looks great.

Am I right to assume the firmware update isn't done automatically by the player? I'll have to check mine today and update it if necessary. I'm just glad I haven't had any trouble (so far) w/ my player other than a playback issue w/ a certain scene on the Tenebre 4K. Everything else I've thrown at it has played flawlessly.
