Wow, eBay is flooded with knockoff remotes for the UB9000. I see like none that are genuine on there. Hope that works well for you. The UB900 remote also works with the UB820. There are so many knockoff remotes that look genuine it's hard to tell at this point what's real and what's not. There is obviously a huge market for them because the UB820 remote stinks.

Yeah the quality won’t be as good as original. So many knockoffs. I don’t even see a “genuine” remote listed. I’ll definitely report back after I give it a go. One thing that’s annoying me with my remote is the pop up menu does not “pop up” during playback. It just goes back to the movie menu screen. I am using a remote from a different BD player which is likely the reason. Looking forward to getting a remote designed for the player and of course with the HDR button.

Surprisingly you can find just as many unbranded versions of the UB820 remote. The Netflix button on that thing is diabolic. I can't count how many times I hit it by mistake, and every time it kicks you out of the movie and takes forever to get back and find the playback position again. Unbelievably frustrating.

That sellers feedback is atrocious, and many buyers say their remotes came damaged because they get mailed from China in plastic bags. $12 is way too good to be true shipped that far. I literally hate dealing with that stuff, so I think I'm gonna just order the $100 one from Europe. Sadly no US sellers stock the clones on ebay or Amazon with the HDR button otherwise I'd give one an audition.

The seller has over 99% positive feedback from thousands of transactions. I got mine from a similar seller in China as well a couple years ago and it's absolutely fine.

You could order 10 from China for that price.

Yes, but the way ebay displays overall feedback score is absurdly tilted in the favor of lazy power sellers. Did you take a peek at the feedback from the last 6 months? Read the comments? It looks like rarewave's account. You do you, but I take things like this very seriously when I'm vetting a seller, and it adds up to me not trusting them in order to minimize risks.

Plus you get what you pay for, always

The genuine panny 9000 remote (from the link in the quote) has a glossy, glass-like top plate that is transparent with a straight "wood grain" type pattern under it that can be seen if you use a light. I'm curious if any of you with a knock-off 9000 remote have the same top plate. If it's the same, then it's probably the same original/ genuine 9000 remote without the panny logo. If not - flip a coin.

And sometimes you get robbed, for example when you pay $100 for a remote that costs maybe $5 to make.

Mine has the glossy front plate. Buttons, backlight, everthing works fine. It even has the original model number in small print below the battery cover similar to the UB820 remote. My guess is that the factories produce more than contracted by Panasonic and sell them as spare parts to make a buck.

I also keep hitting the ExecFlix button when I stop the movie, they always put these things in the worst place because they want you to hit it by mistake.

I thought I was the only one. The first day I played around with it, I hit the Netflix button 3 f*****g times. I thought I was just an idiot (which may still be the case ). Whoever designed it needs to be fired. Now. Immediately.

No, sorry, I meant a v1.76v3 firmware. It should fix an issue with RCE protected DVD's.

The 420's remote is the same basic layout, but much smaller. Funnily I don't have an issue with the NETFLIX button, but I'm baffled to why the BACK button is at the 4:30 position around the D-Pad.

It's in the absolute pinpoint position for your resting thumb no matter which handed you are, definitely by design and paid for

Ah, you got me. No one ever bought a pair of Nikes or a factory car part before. You literally described almost every modern day transaction right down to buying food or medicine. I will still value owning an official product for my not so inexpensive movie player over a knock off, though. You probably don't want to hear about my $1,200 headphones when Skullcandies cost $12, I definitely got robbed on that one.

Yep, and we all know that black plastic remotes are highly sought-after high tech fashion items.

I'll say this: I've now encountered a pretty major issue with the player. It's not playing back a lot of my files. I'll burn files to disc or have it connected via usb. No mp4's. And it's having a lot of problems with audio as well. Won't play any DTS-HD MA, AAC or DD+ audio tracks and will, in some cases, completely refuse to play the file.

Also is there an on-screen display that will show you what audio track you're listening to - not the number but what track it is (english 5.1, french 2.0, etc)?
'
Shocking that this player doesn't have that.

I hit the status or playback info button on the top right of the remote to see all that. It shows everything.

Ahh ok. I guess I was trying to push it on a file that wasn't playing back properly.

Yep. This is a pretty major problem for me. I have so many burned discs and upgraded transfers. I'm debating whether to return it at this point. It might just be time to go the server route.
