Not sure if it's normal, but the light-up stays on only for 5 seconds after pressing the button.
The one like this I ordered from ebay supposedly arrived at my post office on the 5th, then, on the 8th it was incorrectly routed to a different post office (hundreds of miles away), now (12th) it’s in another city, closer, but, not my post office… how in heck did this go from being at my post office office to another state instead of on the delivery truck? Wait, I know the answer, temporary hires, it’s across all shipping companies, too busy, but won’t hire enough people they actually need to do the job. I wonder if I’ll get it in a few days or if it’ll go somewhere else. Now I’m concerned what condition it’ll be in with all this extra handling.

I have the Krampus flickering on my A80J and UB820, it happens mid scene to so it's super distracting

Are you on the 1.76 firmware? Curious if the update helps or not.

Would placing a smaller player (LG BP556, which is around 0.8KG) on top of the UB820 affect it in any way? I never use them simultaneously, it's either one or the other, depending on what I need to play.

I have my Sony 4k player on top of the Panasonic. I don't think it will be much of an issue.

Prior to getting the UB820, I had the LG on top of a, equally small, Panny BDT168 and the only downside to it was the LG sometimes making slight noises while spinning discs due to a lack of stability, but nothing more.

I think it's recommended that you have decent airflow around the player, but you could try it and see if you run into issues.

It’s not recommended to stack electronic equipment. I’d be especially wary of putting anything on top of the UB820 as it has a relatively cheap plastic build and some units are susceptible to disc read errors. I use metal monitor risers with holes for airflow to squeeze more stuff onto the limited shelves in my AV tower.

Stacking Blu-ray players likely isn’t a big deal as long as there’s plenty of room around them for airflow. …unless you’ll be using both at once? Then maybe not.

I know for sure you don’t want your Blu-ray player sitting anywhere directly above your AVR/amp.

As Cherokee Jack pointed out, mine had a plastic film applied as well. Once you peel it off it reveals a piano black/glossy finish.

The backlight works great!

A few thoughts..

Buttons function well with little effort-as they should. I had a knockoff remote for a different player and you had to press so hard for the buttons to engage. These buttons have a soft touch rubbery texture to them. Dare I say premium feel.

I’ve never held the genuine 9000 remote, but it would be interesting to compare them side by side. This remote is very lightweight which is the only “cheap” identifying factor I can come up with. It’s worth mentioning that while the buttons feel “premium” the actual remote does not due to how light it is.

But hey…for $12 shipped you really can’t go wrong. Heck..for those who have the genuine remote and want to keep it in pristine condition, etc. this is a great alternative back up remote.

I definitely recommend this remote. While I doubt it weighs the same as the 9000 remote, I still give it a 4/5. The bottom line: it works and does the job.

I was not expecting this to be as nice as it is. Glad I went ahead and purchased it. For those following my previous posts in this thread, my 820 did not come with a remote so I’ve been using my 10-year old Panny remote with no HDR button. To say this remote is worth the upgrade over the 820, is a massive understatement.

It took 15 days for me to receive it.
Mine finally arrived today, (same one), it was intact since they, fortunately, double wrapped it in bubble wrap. Because of the screw up sending it to the wrong P.O. it took 3 weeks to get it.

It’s great, except just wish it had an indentation on the back like my denon remote, as it has a slippery feel to it.

I set my other Panasonic BD player remote to set 4 so this remote doesn’t trigger both of my Pannys at the same time.

I completely disagree with this statement, yeah the outside box is plastic but the bottom, if you look, is metal, this is what the electronics/mechanicals are attached to. …sure my 2013 panny BD player has a metal box, but, does that mean it’s really that much more sturdy? IDK, it has a more solid feel, but, not sure that the 820 is so “delicate”.

I’m just comparing to other players I’ve owned. The Sony X800 players are inferior in almost every other way but they do feel like tanks compared to the UB820. Ditto for the PS3 slim (it makes as much noise as a tank too…). The UB820 reminds me more of the X700 and my old region free Sony BD player, both of which are very cheap. Quite possible it’s nonetheless very well protected inside but I’ll still be treating mine with kid gloves.

I have stacked players for ages, zero problems. Just helps to put the lightest thing on the top and something built like a tank on bottom. My UB820 is sitting on the Toshiba HD-A35, they are almost the same size. You aren't running them both at the same time so the one that's off is essentially a stand. I used to stack Xbox 360 units also. These days I have everything standing vertically for space 360x2/PS2/PS3/PS4.

I was watching the Pitch Black UHD and ran into an annoying quirk of the UB820, though I think someone else mentioned it in this thread recently. So if you're watching an SDR special feature on a DV disc the player will force DV, I had to disable it to watch Dark Fury in proper SDR. I'm not sure if it was just showing SDR in a DV container with it on, but it looked too bright and my LG was still in DV setting. I wonder if that's why Sony has it disabled by default, funny either way you can't have it all with either player.

Hooked up second Sony X700 today. First one lasted 4-1/2 years. Got UB820…lasted 1-1/2 years. Annoying.

Search of pixelation Panasonic 820 showed some simile at results.

Thought it was the Dune disc. Read about it being problematic. Then we were watching The Green Planet 4K disc and artifacts appeared again. Put in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 4K and before Sony Pictures Classics screen started white dots appeared on the black screen and then, after I skipped to the end, they’d appear when chapter changed, only took pic of Dune. Issues only with some 4K discs. Shrek played fine.

Will continue to use Panasonic for Blu-rays and DVDs. Save some where, in tear on the Sony 4K player.

Panasonic 820 also had had some issues with Alien freezing just for a split second and a couple other discs in the past

Exactly. Heaviest stuff on the bottom-although I wouldn’t put anything directly over any equipment with top vents such as a receiver. They need their own dedicated spot.

Not sure what someone would put on top of the 820 though as it is a rather small player to begin with. It needs limited airflow as the fan is located in the back.

I am pretty sure the flying sequence scene in Dune is where the pixelation occurred for most users.

I know it seems silly, but could a disc ruin a player?

Yeah, the end of Dune wouldn’t even play at all. I had to put in the Blu-ray. I ordered a new copy of Dune. We’ll see how that goes.

When we were watching the BBC documentary and the same thing happened, it was really annoying.

Not sure if it’s even worth sending Panasonic in to get fixed. I remember when my first Sony broke they want it way too much to fix it.
