One of the nifty things about the 820 is that you can get max nit reading for every disc you put in. In The Mummy's case, it's max light level is 1033 nits and max frame average light level 345 nits.

You should watch this video to learn how well the Optimizer works. Vincent is talking about the 9000 but it's the same on the 820.

Also, at around 9m 40s or so, he demos the fact that the average picture level does not go down. It might be a setting on your TV that's making go darker when you turn on the optimizer. For example, if you have a Sony TV, make sure gradation is turned OFF while watching Dolby Vision Content. Gradation ON is only for HDR10 content.

Offhand you can run into issues when you're using three devices, with me if my AVR is in standby it cuts the audio to the TV when I switch on my player. So I need the AVR to be unplugged or the outlet turned off. If you Epson is in standby, cutting it's power may also help.

I’ve been using 820 to send audio/video signals to Marantz SR6004 (which won’t pass 3D or 4K) to watch Blu-rays. Just save wear and tear on Sony X 700.

Panasonic 820 froze last night twice watching the new Mickey and Friends volume 2 Blu-ray. It froze in different spots when we were watching it. Once when my daughter was watching it, and another when I was rewatching some shorts I had missed.

Well, new Dune disc seems to plays.

Color mode and forcing to 4:4:4 is stupid idea, 4:4:4 always has priority if the player is able to send such a signal. With force enabled, I have (and not only me) encountered many cases where there is a problem with switching to HDR mode.

It's worth noting that you need to make sure the 24p setting is set to "Auto" if you want 10 bit or 12 bit content to be displayed on your 4K UHD TV. I had it on "Off" for a while because I had an older receiver for audio (now have a newer one) and realized that it was only outputting in 8 Bit (no matter if it was HDR10 or Dolby Vision).

So, make sure it is always on "Auto" for 24p!

With standard firmware you cannot deactivate the auto power off. If you mod your player for region free playback the auto power off is removed.
