I watcha a lot of tv shows on DVD that have no HD stream or Blu-ray set so I'm always looking for the best it can look with the limited source . I'm sure this has been disgusted 1,000 of times but what is the best dvd upscaler dvd player ,bluray player ,4k player or TV own upscaling ? No computer software in the mix . Don't have a laptop and would be a huge PIA to try and run a dvd through software and then to tv . I nominate for myself the Oppo 103D , The Sony x800m2 is a very close second . I have not tried the TV's doing the upscale on there own yet. Have an LG C9 , A Sony 80J , and a old 2012 Panny Plasma not hooked up . |

lol I don't even know for sure, I followed someone's directions, and it took me like 5 tries to do it. Supposed to hit stop after the region lock screen, if the screen changes you can do the trick and it's like spam top menu, but that's not the exact order I did it when it happened, I think I spammed stop and then a menu button, I can't recall the exact steps but eventually pressing top menu and or the pop-up menu button got it to load. Supposed to not work on stuff from Shout, Kino, Second Sight or 88 Films from what I read but it worked on my Studio Canal disc

Brought the 820 upstairs to do the update, I replaced the power cord and the HDMI from my other player, update went okay, but when I plugged the 420 back in i got a "No signal" message, tried my other HDMI inputs and the same thing.
Going to try a factory reset, but I'm a bit confused as I won't be able to see the FIN 08 on the display. |

I got the UB9000 about 2 weeks ago and finally got around to try more 4K discs. As of today it had bee working perfectly fine, but I only had the chance to play a few discs. Today, it refused to play 3 discs: Vinegar Syndrome's "WEREWOLF SHADOW", "STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT", and Cauldron's "CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD". They are all clean discs (they are spotless, in fact) and they all play fine in an Oppo 203.
Is the player really this finicky? I am considering returning it, sadly. |

I’ve seen this mentioned a few times here but Kino Lorber discs with Dolby Vision are causing strobing effects or an outright blackout on my TV, which is a brand new LG B3 OLED.
I had frequent strobing/flicker issues during the DV encode of Monster Squad made me use the HDR version instead which played perfectly. The same issue did not appear on my Sony X700. There’s also an issue with Kino discs specifically blacking out during Dolby Vision playback on this player. There’s some sort of problem where if the player is outputting at 24p, every few minutes the screen will black out for a few seconds and then come back on. This repeats throughout the rest of the film: I’ve seen this occur on In Bruges, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and one other (unfortunately can’t recall at this time). Fortunately the player continues to put out the required information with 24p disabled, I’m letting the TV doing the fold down to 24 via Real Cinema which seems to work fine. Important to note that neither of these issues have happened with any other 4K Dolby Vision discs. I’ve tried all of the majors, and other boutiques like Criterion, Arrow, Scream/Shout, etc) I’m not sure what’s causing these issues, but here’s hoping someone is aware of it and working on the problem. Will try to see if I can get video from the second HDMI output, I assume that both leads need to be plugged in and it's not a backup connection. Spent the weekend fixing my sister's PC, which was stuck in a diagnostic loop boot-up. Ending up replacing both drives with that one. |

I doubt Panny will ever fix the LG issues on current players with firmware, that's what the new models coming out this year will be for (wild guess). I also saw Sony may have a new UHD player out this year.
I also finally noticed how dusty the Panny gets inside, my tray literally has dust sitting in it way more than any of my other players, my Toshiba HD DVD is like a fortress not a speck of dust in the tray, I have gotten in the habit of gently wiping the Panny down with microfiber. |

I doubt Panasonic will come out with a new player, so the issue will remain. Even the Sony rumor is vague at best.

I'll have to check to see if my Sony UHD Blu-ray player passes DVD natively.
