Umm, CES is the biggest of them all and it happened a couple of weeks ago.

Warning to anyone who wants to buy parts from Panasonic -

I ordered a replacement drive for my UB9000 previously but cancelled when they informed it it would be a 6 month wait.

I ordered again a few days ago and was charged and the item shows as "IN STOCK" right now but a day later they updated it for my order as backordered with a ETA of May at this time. No real ETA to be sure. The website is a total joke and scam and they must put it up there for laughs.

https://panasonic.encompass.com/item...nic/TXP0036-A/

I want the replacement drive so I'm keeping the order and if anything EVER shows up I will be not only thrilled but also pleasantly surprised !

It doesn't even let me open the page. I'm blocked for some reason.

Looking at reviews they seem to by decent if you phone them.

Interesting. I didn't notice that problem when I watched that disc on my 820. I didn't try it in my 9000, though.

I can, but these are the only countries they ship to.

Just picked up an 820 as a secondary UHD player as my Oppo 203 is a bit slow loading a few menus and struggles a bit with newer triple layer disc.

Started up an episode of Star Trek: Strange New World last night and noticed the color space or mapping seems to be off. The Dolby Vision layer seems to be a fair amount brighter than the Oppo playback and the black level is elevated. Full black frames are not fully black and the letterbox bars are even a bit noticeably lighter than black on an LG g3.

Didn’t think I’d have to change anything in settings other than turning DV on and leave everything else on “auto”. Anyone else have to adjust color space or depth? I didn’t see a settings option to select player-led or tv-led dolby vision for the Panasonic compared to the Oppo, thought that might explain the difference.

Send in your oppo for service it doesn’t cost that much. They are still servicing them.

It sounds like you have a mismatch in your HDMI handshake. Try manually switching your TV color range to "Limited" (or whatever it's called on LG).

Leaving everything on Auto on the Panasonic is usually fine. The only manual adjustment I make is set output to 4:2:2.

p.s.- on the Panasonic, you can't manually change to player-led or tv-led.

I tried to order some cassette deck parts that were still showing stock of a year or so ago. Once I put my order in it changed to backordered indefinitely. I think the only reason that site is there so some law is satisfied. I’m pretty sure that they give priority to authorized service centers and if Joe Schmoe orders it shows a long waiting period.

I mean I know drives aren’t as common as they once were but you can still buy drives for the PC market. It sure seem like this is intentional short supplying the repair chain. Moniker for electronics now is ‘throw it away and buy new’

Like the other chap posted, try your LG's HDMI Black Level control for your 820's input, if it's not on Auto it might be mismatched with what the player is sending out, either you'll get black crush or elevated blacks. You can set the player's output to 4K as well.

Worth checking to see if content is elevated, check HDR and SDR.

There's a bug in firmware 1.76 that causes the 820 to use player-led on the G3 and the Sony A95L. The simplest workaround is to use the HDMI Signaling Override menu (Settings -> Picture -> Highlight but don't click Picture Mode -> Press 1113111 -> Scroll to the bottom and switch Dolby VSVDB to V1.) You can verify the switch in the HDMI Diagnostics Menu (Settings -> General -> click Channels -> Highlight but don't click Channel Tuning -> Press 1111111 -> Press down to get to the second More button under DVI/HDMI Status, and in the top left it'll say DolbyLL before, and DolbyVision after changing the VSVDB version).

Yes, it's annoying. I believe I read Stacey Spears reported this to Panasonic but who knows when/if they'll fix it.

It will be June before I can report back my findings.
Now that AKM has likely recovered, I'm hoping that any forthcoming top model Panasonic BD player (or Sony model, however unlikely given their current wares https://electronics.sony.com/tv-vide...yers/c/blu-ray) will again include AKM DAC chips-presumably the same that were used in the superb but sadly discontinued Pioneer Elite BD player line, like mine. https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...yers/UDP-LX500

And this time with the new Panasonic top model, fully functional zoom and slow motion. My LX-500 has them; very useful and fun.

Assuming you're in close communication with market directors please pass on these requests. Thank you.

This is EXACTLY what I believe. !

I know Japan by law requires replacement parts for several years on some things.

I think ours is 10 years after production ends, but who knows how easy it is to get parts of something that's not white goods.

I don't think so...

If I had my PS4 here I understand you can setup the original PSVR and then hot swap the HDMI cable to a blu ray player but my PS4 is at my daughters house so I can't do the experiment currently. That's not AR though but then again the 3DBDs would likely be better suited for VR.

820 is on a slight discount ($425) at Amazon and Best Buy. Tempted to return my new 420 and grab it, even though I don’t need DV right now (but suspect at some point I’ll have a TV with it)

I've got the PS4 and PSVR V2 for this purpose. Apparently, you can't hotwire the PSVR V1 anymore after a firmware update.

This was exactly it, both the tv and player were trying to process the DV. Thanks so much for the info and fix! From reading on avs it seems like as long as you don’t need Dolby Vision VRR it’s fine to use v1 and it’s easy enough to revert the change on that g3 input if needed.
