All the players I've tried are clunky, we're better off trying our TVs. if you need file playback PC or media boxes are far safer bets.

I never even considered playing files at the UB9000, simply because it's way more convenient to play them directly on the TV.

I did, and it’s true. Format compatibility-wise it’s also a disaster.

25i/p and 4K HDR ~24p switching is ok.

Panasonic players have always been poor at USB media playback, I'd imagine it's not a high priority for them. I remember upgrading my LG player to a Panny once I got a 3D TV, not even thinking about the USB playback. I was shocked at how much worse the Panasonic one was considering the LG was made like 5-6 years prior, had to keep both.
Back them a TV's built-in media playback wasn't all that great, but nowadays they play just about anything you throw at them, so there's no reason to rely on the player for anything other than disc playback.

Mine wouldn't even play the files, I didn't use the TV cause it would of been lossy audio on my setup

Do LG TVs now support DTS audio? I know for a while there they weren’t including it on their TVs which got me looking at Sony in the first place.

I’m able to play all media files, including those with DTS on my LG B3.

What is the flickering issue on Kino Lorber discs? It was mentioned in this forum that there was a problem with Monster Squad and DolbyVision on the 820. I picked it up recently and watched the first 30 minutes today and didn't notice any issues.

I was looking for the same type of issue I'd see on Blue Underground discs, and that thankfully wasn't happening.

DV flickering occurs when the metadata layer is misaligned by a frame or two and is not totally in sync with the video layer. Some players seem to be able to compensate for this better than others.

Thanks, that sounds like it could be what I was seeing on Blue Underground's God Told Me To. Every scene change, the top 5% of the image is lighter than the rest for a second or two, then it fixes itself. Really distracting. Works on my Sony 800, but on my Panasonic 820 I have to turn off DV to make it watchable.

I've seen nothing of the like on Monster Squad, the image has been really stable for what I've watched.

Shout’s Krampus is immediately noticeable if people are looking for examples of DV flicker. (Sony a80j)

That might have been me, Monster Squad was really noticeable to me in the scene where Horace gets bullied right towards the beginning. It’ll go from Horace to the bullies, then flicker, back to Horace, flicker, back to the bullies, flicker and do it one more time when the bicycle pulls in. Unfortunately it was so distracting that I just switched to HDR to finish the movie. Every new disc that comes in from Kino I give it another test in DV, and they all display some form of flickering, most recently In Bruges, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and now Kindergarten Cop.

That's my strategy also. I have Oppo 203, Oppo 83 and Pana 820 in same setup. Keeps your memory alive when you keep track of which disc is currently in what player . Needless to say all players are region free. I have been planning to bring good old Toshiba EP10 (=A20) inside from the storage...

I ordered again a few days ago and was charged and the item shows as "IN STOCK" right now but a day later they updated it for my order as backordered with a ETA of May at this time. No real ETA to be sure. The website is a total joke and scam and they must put it up there for laughs.

I want the replacement drive so I'm keeping the order and if anything EVER shows up I will be not only thrilled but also pleasantly surprised !
Yeah. Mine has failed. Not only does it not eject almost all the time, but if it does eject, once you have the tray out and hit the button so it goes back instead it gives a message about it being an incorrect operation and the unit shuts down.

My solution was to try and order a replacement as it would be easy to fix myself, but I couldn't get it shipped to me. End result - it's gone back to Richer Sounds and I have a refund.

I now have a Reavon X200 in its place, with only one tiny hitch... the Reavon got shipped WITHOUT a remote control. If anyone here got two remotes, I'd like mine back please

Thanks, I hadn't noticed but will check that scene. I finished the movie yesterday and didn't see any issues. GREAT movie, I'm glad I picked it up.

I keep getting a message when I'm loading a movie in my UB820 about a new firmware update. I'm tempted to want to download the update but I wanted to ask first if it's worth it or does it makes things worse for the Blu-ray player.

I have the same issue from another title from Blue Underground. Can a update for the Panasonic 820 fix it? Or is the problem with the disc?
