If you look into an HDFury (I have the Vertex2 since you can add custom Dolby Vision HDR curve profiles for a more accurate calibration), it could really breathe new life into your current projector and any that you add down the road. You will then get to view all manner of Dolby Vision content and it is indeed more vibrant and refined than HDR10. If you need HDMI 2.1 at any point, consider getting a newer 8k HDFury model as that will add 8k and 4k/120 fps switching and HDMI audio extraction. No need to update a receiver or processor just for HDMI 2.1 if you need it for high end gaming. Just make sure you have an 18 Gbps or 48 Gbps certified HDMI cable running to the projector. I've looked into the Vertex2, but it's like $400 which isn't something I'm willing to pay right now for something that may or may not work with my setup. Down the road I'll be looking at the JVC NP5, once it drops in price some. Till then, I'll probably deal with what I have. I may buy the Vertex2 from Amazon to test it and return it, just to see if it works. My main issue right now is wanting 4K60 4:4:4 from the Retrotink 4K to pass to my Epson. |

Some products, even today, have trouble with 4k60 at 4:4:4 sampling because of the long cable needed for projector setups. It takes some pretty expensive fiber optic converters (I don't mean passive hybrid cables) to have a rock solid, trouble-free HDMI signal using the highest bandwidth video output at long distances. I would probably knock it down to 4:2:2. All consumer deliverable video is 4:2:0 anyway, so anything above that is an upsampling conversion. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 03-29-2024 at 04:55 PM. |

Hello all..I have the Panny 820 player. Was getting ready to watch Escape from New York 4k tonight and at 1st the thing refused to read the disc, then I finally get it to load but I have no menu options. The background is there and music is playing but no options to select. I tried just hitting select or play but no luck. Any ideas?

Good evening. Sorry for my English. A very strange thing happened to me. I have a Panasonic OLED HZ1000 TV, a Samsung Q950T soundbar and a Panasonic UB820 4K player connected as follows:
- TV and soundbar via earc - 4K player and soundbar via HDMI Until yesterday everything was fine. No problems whatsoever. At the output I had DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus etc. audio signals set to bitstream. I could easily view HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision content via passthrough. Same configuration as above with the Sony ubp-x800m2. This morning suddenly the video signal was no longer output. Black screen. I tried changing the HDMI cables (I changed 5 of them). Nothing. I tried connecting the Sony instead of the Panasonic with the same configuration and it magically worked. So I think the problem is the panasonic player. No way. If I connect the Panasonic directly to the TV instead of passing it through the soundbar the video signal surprisingly returns (I can't blame the soundbar either because as I said before, if I connect the old Sony to the soundbar and use the passthrough, everything works). In addition to the fact that until yesterday everything has always worked like this with the Panasonic. I don't understand. Can you tell me what happened? The only action I did this morning was that I inserted an external hard drive into the USB port with the player turned off. When turning on, black screen. No signal. However, I don't think it has anything to do with the problem I had and am still having. From that moment. Obviously I removed the hard drive. P.s. for those who ask me: yes, if I connect the Panasonic to the TV you can see it, but I necessarily need to connect the player to the soundbar and not directly to the TV, otherwise the DTS HD, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus etc. tracks will come to me converted to pcm. I repeat: until yesterday everything worked with the exact same settings and configurations. |

Second a full reset to factory default plus plug off from wall can resolve the issue. U are not getting video signal from sound bar once connected to your Panasonic player try to troubleshoot from there. There |

The problem could also be with the soundbar, but why does the video magically work if I connect the Sony ubp-x800m2 to the soundbar instead of the Panasonic? |

Finally got the copy of Aliens, True Lies and The Abyss that I ordered a month ago.
I switched on Dolby Vision on my 820 for the first time in well over two years and 40 minutes into Aliens (Extended Edition) I lost the audio and couldn't get it back. I was listening to the Dolby Atmos track. I rebooted the player and audio was working again but I haven't had time to re-start the movie and see if it plays without issue. Would this be a layer change problem with Dolby Vision enabled or something else like the nearly five year old player starting to act up? |

If Dolby Vision didn't cause random problems consistently it would be as popular as Dolby Atmos.
(Theory of mine.) Also, The replacement belt for the drive tray arrived and I installed it and it's working. UB900 back in my system and the UB150 is in storage as a backup player. I recommend trying to replace the belt if your player doesn't always open and close the tray. The UB150 is so good people have to make up things about it in order to protect the value of the higher priced Panasonic players. I really like the fact the UB150 is simple and lacks streaming services because I use other things for that. The biggest issue I have with the UB150 is when you pause it for a few minutes it kind of stutters when playback is restarted. Last edited by bhampton; 04-03-2024 at 05:30 PM. |
