Have any UB9000 owners had any issues with playing NC-17 and unrated region 1 Fox DVDs, where it keeps coming up with an on-disc message (with the Fox logo behind it, so it's not an error on the discs) saying the disc cannot be played due to the player's parental settings? I've got it set on 8 (all unlocked) and tried 1 to 7 as well, but it came up with the same message every time. Tried several discs and the only ones affected seem to be Fox releases rated NC-17 or unrated.
I think it must be some quirk in the player itself (mine is multi-region for both DVD and blu-ray, if that makes a difference) as the same discs all play without issue on my older Panasonic. It's not the end of the world because of that, but the upscaling on the UB9000 is much better than on the old Panny. Last edited by Jackie Scanlon; 04-12-2024 at 12:24 PM. |

Is there any reason to get the 820 over the 420 if I don't use DV? Like does the 820 have better internals/parts, more reliable and less likely to freeze, perform better overall (significantly faster load times, faster seek, etc.)?

You have displays that accept and process Dolby Vision. Get the 820. Even a 4K HDR10 projector or Samsung 4k HDR10 display with no Dolby Vision can be converted to Dolby Vision support with an HDFury device, so the 820 would still be necessary.

![]() So question still stands. Is there another reason to get the 820 over the 420 other than DV (is the 820 built better, more reliable, performs better?). |

A drive is only going to "see" all or no layers. If a drive is not capable of reading three-layer discs, it will not read them at all. The only set-top Ultra HD Blu-ray players I know of that have drives capable of reading BD-R 100 discs are some Blu-ray DVR units sold mostly in Japan.

Someone else asked if the recordable media is still a thing and yes it is. In my case, I burned imported discs with finnish subtitles to bd-r dl or bdxl discs since I don't like to use harddrives to host my movies. |

Is there an advantage to the 9000 remote vs a Logitech Harmony? The 9000 codes should be available in the Harmony database since Logitech is still supporting the product.

[QUOTE=red_5ive;22043466]Can you clarify what you mean by optical drive? I mean, aren't all disc format based players (cd, dvd, bd, etc.) using some type of optical drive?
What I mean by optical drive is a different item than the one use in 420. At the end all are the same as you said. |

I would say yes, the HDR optimizer button and subtitle button are invaluable for quick access, doubtful to be on a universal, or the -10s or +60s buttons, little things like that. If you just press play and stop then whatever, but I tend to always do things on the remote during most films at least during initial setup.

I always do an initial setup as well to select subs and audio codec depending on the disc, and I also pick a DSP and tone/sub/bass settings on my processor depending on the source I'm watching or listening to. With the more common routines, I have macros setup so that I touch a button and it goes through a command sequence automatically to set things. All from the Harmony.
