Still surprised there seems to be so little availability of replacement drives for the consumer market.

I regret updating to 1.76 now because it uses source led DV if the display is capable of high luminance. Is there anyway to fix this or get back to TV led?

You can change it with your LG's HDMI Signalling Override Menu.

I wish the top menu trick worked 100% but I've been pretty lucky with it working on everything I own, or have asked members here before I buy something and someone usually has a legit answer. My Dawn of the Dead Second Sight bonus Blu rays do not work, but lots of cool stuff does like the Arrow Bruce Lee discs, Strange Days, Studio Canal discs, some Eureka discs. Sad that all the 88 Films discs I want don't work

Check out the AVForum region free patcher (detailed instructions here), if it looks like something you're capable of doing, buy a new UB820 and patch it yourself. Otherwise, buy a modded one from 220.
Thank you so much for the advice. I’ll probably just get one from 220 Electronics then.

Not sure how new this is but It looks like the US is getting the UB450?

It has a page on the Panasonic US support site and a listing on the shop for $259.

Tempted to order since my 820 only plays blu rays and thats if the disc isn't scratched up.. will not work with mint DVDS.. i mean at least it should do something. I got back up ps5 and oppo 203.. might look into reavon or magnetar.

Any idea what the UB450 will be sacrificing in comparison to the UB820?

Does a comparison list exist for all the models? We will now have the 154,420,450,820 and 9000. Other than the 450 and above having Dolby Vision and the better build on the 9000 I have no clue what makes one better than another. I currently have an 820 but am looking at getting a second player for a TV that doesn't support Dolby. Is the 154 ok or is the 420 worth the extra? Is the 450 worth getting even if you won't use Dolby?

I noticed that Panny 450 product page states

Playable Sound

WAV, WMA, AAC, AIFF, MP3, FLAC, DSF, DSD, ALAC, DFF, MPEG-2, MKV, AVCHD and BDAV

That means it plays SACD rips (DSF) and probably Sacd's. That competes with Sony's players and the first time that I'm aware of that Panasonic supported the format.

The 450 supports DV. I wonder if Panasonic is going to continue with the 820....

The 450 is a better file player than the 820 and can play hi-res audio files. It cannot play SACDs. But it has inferior build quality to the 820.

Is it? That's a major problem that I have with the 820.

Could I use this remote on a UB420? I'm tired of hitting the damn Netflix button.

So I guess maybe the outlet wasn’t getting enough power before. Maybe the player would lose power for a split second while starting up? Just crazy. I was actually keeping count before; how many times the player started up without freezing. I stopped keeping count after I got past 30 times .

So a happy accident fixed my start-up issue
Follow-up to this old post. My UB820 froze up a few times again yesterday & today starting up. So I unplugged it from the surge protector; might’ve had a few too many items plugged into for the player to get enough power.

I plugged it into another outlet via extension chord. Nothing else plugged into this outlet except a lamp. Let’s see if it gets enough power now; no hiccups.

Lol I'm afraid to see something inferior to the already cheaper build of the 820

Yep it's gucci that's a clone of the 9000 remote should work on this entire series of Panny

No, you misunderstand. It freezes when I power it up. Nothing even in the player. It says “welcome,” on the front panel…then stays on “welcome.” It plays dvds, blu-rays and 4K UHD discs just fine. No issues. Just freezes up once in awhile powering up.

Haven’t had any issues so far moving it to another outlet by itself.
