I figure it’ll come out in 4K eventually. I also keep hoping someone will find a silver bullet remote trick to get all of these to load on the 820

I’ve never hit the down arrow. Just STOP, followed by TOP MENU. But whatever works.

This is interesting. I also have the Pani 9000 and it does not have a problem recognizing discs and playing them, however it has a problem switching to a different layer on some. At least I think it's a layer change. So far it's only been on discs that I got used. I inspect them with a flashlight and reading glasses before purchase so I know they are nearly perfect to perfect before I purchase. It's always the same discs and always at the same point. It doesn't matter if I take the disc out and clean it or not. So far it's only happening on regular blu-ray's.

Problems on SPECTRE, Thor, Captain America Winter Soldier, and Robots.

I even got curious once and purchased a replacement for one of the movies I had a problem with. I purchased a new sealed 4k combo pack (4K +Bluray) disc's and both played fine. I encountered no problems with the replacement.

I understand those 4K discs which are region locked are manufacturing errors...

It's not magic, if it doesn't work it doesn't work. You're unlucky and selected the wrong disks.

I buy Region B discs figuring some will not work without a region-free player. I paid my money, I took my chances.

I'm still allowed to hope that someone will discover a better/more consistent trick to getting these to work with an 820.

Jeez.

The "better/more consistent trick" is to get your player modified for region free playback. The panasonic 420/820/9000 players can be modded for free as long as the firmware is version 1.76 or lower.

To be clear about this, I'm not exactly pining over the discs I can't play. These are a very small percentage of my overall collection.

One day I'll either mod my current player or get a new one. For now, I'll just hope that someone finds a different method to allow them to work.

I have 2 UB820s, one is 6 years old and the other is 2. I use the newer one only about once a week in the living room, and the tray started refusing to open earlier this year (after the warranty expired, of course). The funny thing is, once you open it up and remove the disc manually (the hacks others have mentioned for this issue don't seem to work), the tray starts working reliably again for a few discs. Unfortunately, it always goes back to being stuck sooner or later. So now I've left the top panel loose so I can easily retrieve the disc when needed. On the other hand, the UB820 in my theater room is 6 years old, I use it every day, and it's never once had this issue. Go figure!

I have yet to try the Dawn special features disc from SS, but I was able to play The Mummy ‘59 release that came out recently from SS.

Kinda weird how it can be hit or miss.

Out of curiosity, does the region bypass trick you described earlier work on discs where the "Stop" -> "Top Menu" (-> optional additional "Top Menu" press) trick doesn't work?

That's what I've always done and it works on a large percentage of the Region B discs I own.

Apparently the “down arrow” isn’t even necessary now? It’s all over the place but I guess do whatever works for you.

Ive only tried a few discs but they’ve all worked using a combination of:

Home/Down arrow/Top Menu
Stop/Down arrow/top menu

Here's a thread that's been around for a long time. It has a bunch of different ways for loading region-locked discs on Panasonic players:

EDIT
I was wrong, 2 means title chapter so we can try 1 2 3 4 5 and one of those digits can load a title with the movie or bypass the region lock screen.

2 means region B, 1 region A, 3 region C.
I will absolutely try that, thank you!

Yeah I have never seen this before until Tremors 2. It is pretty bad.

Does switching off DV solve it? Never occured to me at the time for some reason.

Tried Fearless Hyena (88 Films), Suspiria 2018 (Koch) and Terrified (Pandastorm) using the original instructions, along with some suggestions from the other thread. Couldn’t get any of them to load. I’ll try the latest update from pr0darek in the next day or so.

Thanks again for the suggestions

Yes always. Halloween 4 flickers for me in DV on 820, turn it off and fine in HDR10

Old stuff was simply made better. I firmly believe this. My Oppo players are still solid and whisper-quiet, whereas every other player I have tested, including a new $1600 Magnetar player, are finicky as hell and extremely noisy.
