Is there a region free mod for this unit?

This can't be that complicated and would put Panasonic in a really good position if implemented.
That would be a great feature indeed! I would be willing to trade Dolby Vision or HDR10+ for it.

Does HDR and DV work with the LG 65E6 OLED TV? I want to order this player but want to make sure before I spend $500. If not I will go with the Sony UBPX800/LGUBK90 as it's about $200 cheaper.

TIA
You must set the HDMI input of your LG to "deep color". Then it works beautifully.

3.0 Press TOP MENU and wait for menu screen to appear, Press ENTER for PLAY on Menu
The movie now starts.

Note: If you get a not allowed error message when TOP MENU is first pressed, press TOP MENU
again after error message at top of screen goes off. There may be some wait time. Lions
Gate Region B works with second press of TOP MENU button.

This has worked smoothly on five out of five different labels from UK that are Region B locked.
(Arrow, BFI,Masters of Cinema, CURZON Artificial Eye and Universal)

Could not make this work on France or Germany Region B discs.managed to play one German disc by skipping STOP and going to TOP MENU first.

But that’s not a mod. Is there a chip to make it actually region free?

No bluray players can be region free for bluray disc playback.

If it can only play UK region B but only part (or nothing at all) from France and Germany which are also part of region B, then it’s not a mod.

I used to have a Panasonic BD player bought locally that literally play all the discs I purchased around the world. When if died I opened it up and I saw a self-soldered chip on the board.

Does the Netflix App have the info bar with any Panasonic players? I thought pressing PLAYBACK INFO. would bring up the resolution/bitrate/connection speed?

True all the third party hardware hacks make the Blu-ray player region selectable where one needs to manually change the region code with the remote control.

You can by pass the region lock on this player using sequence on remote control. It works for most BD discs but not all. See the discussion on this earlier in thread.

Most foreign from the U.S. Panasonic units have a region-free mod. to make it region-free (or region selectable, if you want to get technical, which has always fallen under the definition of region-free) easily, using a remote control that can be purchased on eBay.co.uk. I'm wondering if it works on this player, myself. I'd like to buy the U.S. version of this player, but am waiting until a confirmed region-free way has been released for it.

That makes them region free for DVD, not BD.

Correct, forgot that part that the blu-ray region selection requires a different mod.

Photos on the Value Electronics website show the front is USB 2.0 and rear is USB 3.0. 2 USB ports total.

Got my 820 hooked up today and did some preliminary setup. I really like the HDR optimizer and how easy you can go through the presets to find a setting that looks good. I think it is going to pair really well with my Sony 285 projector. I watched the battle of New York from my Acengers 4K disc. The affects of the optimizer can really be seen in shots with the clouded sky and cosmic cube.

The main negative I have with the player is the physical design and build quality. Compared to my Oppo 203, the 820 just feels cheap. I’m also not a fan of the flip down front. I think I would like it more is my player was in view all the time, but having an enclosed A/V cabinet the clean look does nothing for me.

Amazon app is garbage. Amazon and Panny didn’t test it at all.
