Updated my player from the net and working just fine

first thing I always check after is if my multiregion mod is still working

I USB updated an older Sony Blu-ray player years back that was MR modded and it killed the mod after i did it, never again.

I believe the rubber spacer in the drive unit is hitting the disc for some reason when it's spinning. Went in and cleaned everything to no avail.

The drive still plays standard Blu-ray just fine, though.
Gidday scohenmarinetech,

Firstly try to open your disc drive and give it a gentle clean with some alcohol on cotton buds and lightly rub the lenses of the drive. Then reassemble and see if you can play 4K discs.

Secondly I have only placed and tried a UB9000 disc drive TX.....65 on my UB820 and it was much quieter than original drive and played DVD BDs and 4Ks without any issue.

And be very gentle and patient if you decide to remove and replace your disc drive at your own risk. Good luck!

Just picked up a copy of Spiderman Across the Spiderverse 4K and played it on my 820. Just a few minutes in the picture pixelated and when it came back there was no audio.

Rewound and reproduced the problem multiple times.

Disabled Dolby Vision and the disc played fine.

Is this a known problem with this disc or do I potentially have a defective disc? I ran into a similar problem with Aliens 4K and it was a problem with the 820 with that disc with Dolby vision.

Encountered the same exact issue on my ub9000 for the Grinch animated 4K. I was playing it on DV. Maybe I'll test it on HDR10 when I get a chance..

That doesn’t make any sense. Why would the player struggle only on the DV version??

Hello.
Can someone on the forum tell me which PANASONIK 4k player can be unlocked CINAVA.
Panasonic DP-UB820-K 4K or Panasonic DP-UB9000EB and to play movies on BD-R XL discs.
Maybe some Sony 4k model.
Thank you.
I saw on this forum that firmware version: 1.60A on these players DP-UB420EB/EG/GN/PC
DP-UB424EG
DP-UB820EB/EF/EG/GN/P/PC
DP-UB824EG
DP-UB9000EB/EG/GN/P/PC
DP-UB9004EG
change these properties:
Multi-Region playback for DVD and Blu-ray
Country code selection
DVD UOP (User operation prohibition) deactivation
Blu-ray PUO (Protected user operation) deactivation
Cinavia™ free operation
PAL support for non-PAL models
Stock firmware feature upgrade.
Where can I download this firmware and if there is any update guide

I don't know, but it was 100% reproducible with multiple copies of the new 4K remaster of Aliens and only when played in DV. Switching the player to HDR completely resolved the problem.

Other titles have also had issues only with the DV track on the Panasonic players. Could be a problem between the way the title is mastered and the way the Panasonic player reads it.

Aliens might have been fixed in the new player firmware, I will have to re-test it.

Spiderman though definitely has what looks like a similar issue. I've reached out to Sony customer service for a new disc, will see what happens.

Default Hi folks, first time buyer of this player!

I've been using the Sony 4K UBP-X800 (2 of them total) as my main player and I've read and heard great things about this Panny. With the Sonys now being 7 plus years old, they have been having issues skipping and freezing more and more and I've had to unplug them in order to resolve the issue (I read this is because Sony players have issues with the layer change on BD-100 discs, etc).

I've hooked it up and programmed my Smart Remote and all the basics in terms of set up, and one thing I noticed is when I'm playing a 4K disc with Dolby Vision, how do I know that DV is actually enabled? When I hit the buttons to see all the playback details, it says High Dynamic Range (HDR) but I do not see a dolby Vision indicator anywhere; I've enabled Dolby Vision on my input on my Sony OLED, and I've turned off the HDR+ on the Panny while keeping Dolby Vision to on; am I missing something? Are you supposed to be able to see if you are viewing the film in Dolby Vision as opposed to HDR10? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes I have pressed the status button, but as seen in the photo provided, the output is HDR10 only, not Dolby Vision. The disc I'm playing has Dolby Vision, my tv is Dolby Vision and the enhanced format Dolby Vision option is enabled for the input, and on the player I have HDR10+ off and Dolby Vision On so I don't know what else it could be unless I missed another setting.

It seems the receiver you have in your signature doesn't support passthrough of Dolby Vision. Or do you have your Panny straight to your TV?

Thanks Kobe, you were right. I had the TV connected to the receiver, then from the receiver to the Panny. I switched connections and now have the Panny HDMI OUT to the TV and the Panny Audio OUT to the Receiver and voila, now the TV is outputting properly in DV with a DV disc.

Now my problem is that when I programmed the Smart Remote I have with two activities (watch TV / Watch Movies), when I hit watch movies, I get sound from my receiver while watching a movie on the Panny as it should. But when I switch to watch TV, the TV apps come on but I'm getting no sound from the receiver. Since the panny now is the main source of content for both TV and Receiver, do I have to use the Panny's apps instead of my TVs apps in order to get sound from my receiver?

I think you still need a connection from the receiver to the TV(eARC) to get audio from the TV apps. Your probably gonna have to switch inputs at the receiver too between movies and TV

I use the same dual conn method your using now for the same reason, no DV support on receiver. I have to switch inputs on the receiver and TV between movies and TV(DirecTV)

I currently have the Sony X800 from when it first came out. I do get a lot of random lockups, freezes and pixelizations from time to time with 4K movies. I did order the X800M to replace the X800 with, but is the UB820-K a much better player? I do see that it is $100 off right now at Best Buy for instance. I was looking for a more reliable player, even though it seems like these also have their own issues too.

Yes the UB820 is much better for UHD than Sony, I also have a Sony deck and it stays in the closet

The first movie I watched on the X800M2 which is Hellraiser III (Arrow UHD), and I get a freeze towards the end of the film. It is so frustrating with this format for sure. The original X800 would drive me nuts having to unplug the player at times during hard lock ups. It seems like the 800M2 isn't too far behind with the problems.

Is there anything that the UB820 lacks on vs. the Sony players?
